All your enemies
Have opened their mouths wide against you;
They hiss and gnash their teeth.
They say, “We have swallowed her up!
Surely this is the day for which we waited; (From the Bible: Lamentations 2:16)

But, they have not swallowed her up.  Not Senator Diane Feinstein, not Nancy Pelosi, her neighbor of 30 years, and not Pelosi’s eldest caregiving daughter, Nancy Corinne Prowda.

For months, the GOP, many self-important, ineffectual politicians and op/ed columnists have railed against Senator Feinstein, demanding her resignation and heaping scorn on those who protected, sheltered, and cared for a woman who is elderly, recently recovering from shingles and its maladies.

By Geoff Page

There were two main items of interest at the Peninsula Community Planning Board’s regular monthly meeting, Thursday, May 18: traffic and cell towers.

The PCPB has resumed in-person meetings at the Point Loma/Hervey Library the third Thursday of each month. Zoom meetings have been discontinued.

Voltaire Street traffic

The traffic issue on Voltaire drew a number of people to the meeting.

Frank Gormlie  May 19, 2023  2 Comments on Midway Rising Developer and Todd Gloria’s Top Campaign Contributor Is an Owner of New San Diego Soccer Team

Did anyone else notice it?

Amidst all the hoopla and genuine joy over the recent announcement that San Diego will have a major league soccer team, is the little-emphasized fact that Brad Termini — the Midway Rising developer and Mayor Gloria’s top campaign contributor — is one of the owners of the new franchise. A minority one, yes, but one nevertheless.

Yesterday’s U-T gave us an insight into the whole origin story and with a nod towards Termini’s role.

The bean counters of medical establishments have figured out how to keep our doctors busy

By Joni Halpern

Take a good look at your doctors the next time you go to see them.  They don’t have time to do more than glance at you, so you can give them a good going over while they engage in cyber-course with computerized algorithms that now dictate every moment of their working life.

You’ll notice a growing number of your doctors look tired; they have bags under their eyes, regardless of their age.

‘Glad I Hear From My Grand Kids Regularly!’

For the second time in two weeks I have received a telephone call from “my favorite” grandson.  Since I have 9 grandsons (and 11 granddaughters) it is difficult for anyone to assume that he/she is my “favorite” but apparently the person on the other end thought that he must be THAT ONE.  Funny though – he wasn’t sure of his name when I asked him which one.

When I answered the phone he said, “Hello grandma.  This is your favorite grandson.”

Housing Commission to Apply for State Funds to Buy Abbott St. Apartments in OB and Midway’s Ramada Inn for Homeless Residents

Frank Gormlie  May 17, 2023  38 Comments on Housing Commission to Apply for State Funds to Buy Abbott St. Apartments in OB and Midway’s Ramada Inn for Homeless Residents

At their May 12 meeting, the San Diego Housing Commission unanimously agreed to apply for state funds to help purchase a vacant apartment building at 2147 Abbott Street in Ocean Beach and the Ramada Inn in the Midway District  to provide permanent housing for homeless people.

The Commissioners voted to apply for up to $5 million to help purchase the apartment building which would create 13 units. Vacant since January 2022, the property — if bought — would provide 13 units for people who had experienced chronic homelessness and whose income is up to 30 percent of the area median income, which is $27,350 a year for a one-person household.

Peninsula Planners to Consider Rescinding Request for Stop Sign Along Voltaire — Thursday, May 18

Frank Gormlie  May 17, 2023  10 Comments on Peninsula Planners to Consider Rescinding Request for Stop Sign Along Voltaire — Thursday, May 18

Back in early December 2022, the Peninsula Community Planning Board approved sending a letter to the city requesting a stop sign along Voltaire Street either at Bolinas or Soto. The letter was sent on Dec. 27.

Since then, there’s been a noticeable push-back by residents and property owners who live on Voltaire near those streets. They oppose a stop sign and they have a bunch of good reasons.
And this is on the Board’s agenda Thursday night, May 18.
