OB Surf and Skate Classic at Ocean Beach Pier — Weekend, May 3-4

The OB Surf & Skate Classic, a celebration of surf and skate culture in San Diego, is returning to Ocean Beach on May 3 and May 4.

The event is presented by The Hodad’s Foundation and AWOL Productions. There are a variety of competitive divisions for both young and old surfers and skaters, including a Family Division, Longboard and Shortboard categories, and more.

While surfers will be able to catch some waves on the waters off Ocean Beach, there will also be a variety of ramps, pipes, and courses for skaters.

There will be surf divisional competitions on both Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. Additionally, there will also be skate divisions on Sunday, May 4 near the Ocean Beach Pier.

All registered participants will receive special OB Surf &S kate Classic t-shirts, and there are exclusive trophies available for category winners. Attendees can expect a festival-like atmosphere with live music, vendors, food trucks, and craft beers from Hodad’s Brewery.

However, the OB Surf & Skate Classic is about a lot more than just winning a competition — it’s also a celebration of community and giving back. Proceeds from the event will support youth sports, mental illness support, and more.

  1. And of course the surf jumps 3-5 feet on Sunday with sets just pouring in right now on the OB Hotel cam. One person out that I can see, and a lot of close-outs! A couple have broke nearly as far out as the restaurant, and one set a bit ago actually broke on Southside and rolled through the Pier pushing the soup out under the easternmost restaurant piles.

OB has always had bad luck with waves for contests as far back as I remember (the World in ’66 is a case in point). One of these days maybe it’ll happen!
