OB Rag is Model for Coverage of Neglected Neighborhoods

The San Diego Free Press – which is about to celebrate its first year anniversary June 4th – has for the last three to four months been using the OB Rag as its model in its coverage of different communities around San Diego.

All during this past month of May, the Free Press has targeted the community of Golden Hill.

Justin Brooks of Ocean Beach leads march to Sacramento for “California Twelve”

The California Innocence Project is currently sponsoring an OB-to- Sacramento march – 600 miles – to present Gov. Brown with petitions for the “California Twelve” – a group of inmates who all have been imprisoned under false pretenses, according to the evidence presented by the CIP.

The march – being led by local lawyers – was organized by Justin Brooks – an OB resident, law school professor, and founder of CIP – and includes family members of the twelve inmates along the way. Here’s our report from May 2.

The march began on April 27th with an initial walk from downtown to Ocean Beach by Brooks and the other lawyers and dozens of law students.

Do you recall the case of the unarmed Marine killed by an Orange County sheriff right in front of his two daughters? We do as we ran articles on the incident.

Marine Sgt Manuel Loggins Jr was shot to death as he sat in his SUV along with his daughters by Deputy Darren Sandberg back on February 7, 2012.

His family just settled a federal lawsuit against Orange County for $4.4 million. Loggins had been stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Why Has OB Apartment Market Stalled? …

People that know me know that the only make-up I wear is mascara and eyeshadow. I probably wouldn’t wear that if my eyelashes weren’t blond – or is it gray now – and I like to highlight my blue eyes. But recently I have started dating – bad word – “going out with” – younger men and after changing the lights in my bathroom have discovered wrinkles I never knew I had. (Of course, having cataract surgery has helped (?) my vision.)

Marijuana dispensary robbed near Ocean Beach

On Memorial Day near Ocean Beach, two men robbed a medical pot dispensary and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and herbal weed. It happened around 11:15 a.m. when a guy walked into The Storefront with a gun. Another man waited outside in a car, witnesses told the press. CBS8

I would like to say, before I comment on the story, “Point Loma Imbroglio Continues Over ‘Bogus’ Stop Signs After Peninsula Planners’ Compromise” is that I very much appreciate the work the OB Rag and its staff does keeping us all informed about what is happening in our community and beyond. So, if I make some corrections to this article, I am not being critical of the effort.
