Do you know where Seaside Street is in San Diego? A good guess would be, beside the sea. Not correct unless you consider anything west of I-5 as ‘beside’ the sea.

Seaside is in the 92107 zip code. We’ll spot you that and let you Google the rest.

But what caught our eye while cruising the neighborhood this week was how close Seaside is to everywhere else.

Fifty San Diegans rallied Friday in Balboa Park to call for accountability and to mark the second anniversary of the attempted insurrection and coup.

They gathered near the Evenson Fountain between the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the Natural History Museum on a bright but cool afternoon. The event was organized by a local Indivisible chapter and was part of nationwide efforts to demand that those responsible at the highest levels for the violence on January 6, 2021, be brought to justice.

San Diegans have organized a rally today, January 6, to demand accountability and to mark two years since the January 6th attack on our Capitol.

It’s from 2 to 4 PM at Balboa Park’s Bea Evenson Fountain (between the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the Natural History)

It’s part of events nationwide that will raise our voices for accountability and broad democracy reforms.

Two years ago today, we defeated an attempted coup in our country. The attack by domestic terrorists, operating on the orders of a treasonous defeated president, attacked our Capitol and Congress with brutal violence. People died. 535 Americans elected to represent us were forced to run for their lives.

This violent coup was beaten back after hours of pleas to the White House for help. May Trump rot in prison some day for this.

Today is January 6, 2023, and it’s now been two years since Trump instigated and organized the insurrection at the Capitol and assault on our democracy. And he is still walking around free. Although hundreds of those he mobilized for the attack are not.

And as Kevin McCarthy knows, the insurrectionists in the House are still with us. America is still dealing with the insurrection on so many levels.

Yes, the House Panel that investigated January 6 did vote on Monday, Dec. 19, to send to Justice Department prosecutors a recommendation that the former president Trump be charged with four crimes:

• inciting or assisting an insurrection,
• obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress,
• conspiracy to defraud the United States and
• conspiracy to make a false statement.

The City has just announced that an application has been filed to create 3 brand new ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units – or “granny flats”) at 4954 West Point Loma Boulevard in northwest Ocean Beach.

The application filed by “ADU Geeks” is for a Coastal Development Permit to convert the existing attached garage of a single-family residence into a new 480 square foot ADU and the creation of a new two story detached structure containing two 414 square feet ADU’s. The application was filed on December 6, 2022 with the city.

As you pay your January SDG&E bill, remember those San Diego City Council members who voted back in 2021 to approve their contract. Why?

Because San Diego Gas & Electric just announced that its customers can expect their energy bill to more than double this January. It implemented new natural gas and electric rates on Jan. 1. SDG&E says the increase reflects the rising costs of providing reliable energy services.

Companies have until Feb. 7, 2023 to submit their Statement of Qualifications in hopes of being selected as the master developer for revitalizing the Naval Base Point Loma Old Town Campus, known as OTC.

On Dec. 7, 2022, members of the public, government, Navy, NAVWAR and potential developers gathered to learn about why the revitalization efforts are needed and what the Navy wants in a master developer. Over 100 companies registered for the event, representing all aspects of the construction and housing industry.

The nonprofit Sea of Clouds (a San Diego preservation group) together with Surfrider Foundation, Long Beach Chapter, have nominated Long Beach’s former site of the 1938 National Surfing and Paddleboard Championships as a California Point of Historical Interest to commemorate the area’s pre-World War II surfing history.

Held adjacent to Long Beach’s famed (and since demolished) Rainbow Pier, the contest was Los Angeles County’s first surfing and paddleboard competition billed as a national event.

Michael McConnell, who has helped and advocated for the homeless for more than a decade, has set up a GoFundMe page in order to help unhoused individuals that lost their belongings from the rising levels of the San Diego River and the recent rain.

The continuous rain has flooded several areas in the San Diego Riverbed, which has impacted an estimated 400 people who call the San Diego Riverbed their home.
