Back in full- swing, after the recent Covid lockdowns and restrictions, this year’s Point Loma Portuguese Festa delivered lots to admire.

Not just the religious celebration of the Feast of the Holy Spirit, but a much-welcomed display of spirit and perseverance in the Portuguese community.

Decked out in full-dress regalia with amazing hand-sewn capes and glittering crowns, generations of neighbors and friends planned, organized, produced and cheered an enchanting parade.

‘Locked Groove’ in Point Loma’s Plumosa Park

Source  June 6, 2022  0 Comments on ‘Locked Groove’ in Point Loma’s Plumosa Park

What propels us forward?
Are we aware of all the cycles that influence our lives?
Can we control these rhythms?
Do we love the dance?

Locked Groove is a looped audiovisual experience that traces and morphs along the entire curb edging of Point Loma’s Plumosa Park.

Locked Groove presents a rhythmic visual design using temporary chalk pigments based on conceptual ideas about life rhythms. These rhythms are divided into four themes: domestic, social, industrial, and natural. These rhythms’ graphical patterns are inspired by rhythmic sound palettes designed by the artist and ancient, modern, and contemporary visual media.

OB’s “annual” Fourth of July fireworks celebration off the Ocean Beach Pier will not be happening – again for the third year in a row.

And because of the state of the pier itself, whether fireworks will be held ever again is in doubt. .

Denny Knox of the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association (OBMA) told The Beacon the pier cannot handle the trucks and other weight-causing activity. She said:

“We don’t want to be responsible for (the pier) crumbling into the ocean.”

Three potential designs were displayed and discussed:

A “Modern Spanish Monterey” style which proposed building a high-ceiling, multi window-pane conference room behind the current historic library building.

A “Modular Flexibility” version which has lower ceilings, wood blinders and a pointed-sloped roof similar to the current building.

And finally a “Modern/Movement” design which incorporated a reddish/brownish stucco on the exterior high-ceiling walls, which gives this design a lot more color and vibrancy to the exterior.

Campbell never responded to the invitation. Day said he would be there, but, so far, no reason has been offered as to why Day did not show up. Mandy Havlik, Lori Saldaña, and Linda Lukacs did participate.
