Darn, in a report, the news media figured out, “San Diego has the best weather in the country.” Then another article in the NY Times says San Diego has the fastest rising home prices in the country.

Looking at the country’s roasting weather reports, our constant coastal weather in the seventies stands out. Then on the last night of July, we had our first summer rain. Does this mean we are in for a muggy August with tropical-like flash floods like we have had in recent years?

Tonight, Wednesday, August 3, the Ocean Beach Planning Board will hold its monthly meeting. The Board is holding in-person meetings and are back at their normal site, the OB Recreation Center at 4726 Santa Monica. They meet at 6pm.

Vice-chair Kevin Hastings will give an update on the status of the ongoing coastal access projects.

Part 2

For those of you that did not read “Who Is Linda Lukacs, Part I,” let me briefly state that she is running for City Council Seat, District 2, against Jen Campbell, the incumbent.  I voted for Dr. Campbell when she was elected because I felt she was the best for the job – and the fact that she was a Democrat did not sway me in my decision.

After all, I am a registered Democrat.  On the other hand, Linda is a registered Republican

Dr. Keith Benson wrote the research paper “Teachers Teach and Do the World Good ….” In this scholarly piece published by Scientific Research, Keith, an inspirational young man and community leader, described the world wide neoliberal attack on public education highlighting the often dangerous stand teachers take to save public schools.

In the introduction, Benson writes, “To be sure, teachers have a rich and valuable history of standing up and pushing for the best interests of their societies, and it is my intent to discuss just some of that here.” (Benson 218)

Evidently, the decision had been made.  According to CNN, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the third in line of succession to the Presidency, is currently visiting Taiwan.

Why is this even a story, let alone a global headline? And a major controversy? Because China declares that Taiwan belongs to them. And because, reportedly, Pelosi’s 12th Congressional District is made up of 32% Chinese-Americans.

Clearly a compromise between local tennis and pickleball players must be sought, before more angry public arguments, yelling and disruptions through acts of faux civil disobedience lead to fisticuffs or worse.

After months of simmering, the conflict between pickleball and tennis players burst out into the open over the weekend when a group of pickleball players ambushed staff at the Peninsula Tennis Club  and took over tennis courts for about 40 minutes. Staff called in San Diego Police and eventually the scene quieted down when the pickleball players left.

In response to a report of an incident at the Peninsula Tennis Club over the weekend, posted by the Rag Monday, here is the video shot by the pickle ball players, showing their side of what happened.

According to witnesses, at approximately 3:30 pm Thursday, July 30, a group of 14 people entered the Peninsula Tennis Clubhouse, led by Stefan Boyland and Mike Shinzaki of Pickleball SD.

They dismissed warnings by manager Duncan Depew and staff that the club was a “tennis-only facility,” and proceeded onto the nearest court, where they set up two temporary pickleball nets, displacing the tennis members who had the court reserved.
