Thursday’s January 6 Committee hearing painted a portrait of “an out-of-control, criminal, seditious, mad president.”

The dictionary definition of treason is straightforward. It is “the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance.”

History provides a catalogue of illustrations of treasonous acts. But rarely have we gotten so precise a play-by-play of “overt acts to overthrow the government” as has been provided by the hearings of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the US Capitol.

Sheldon Dorf was one of the founders of Comic-Con and he lived in Ocean Beach for many years. He passed away at the age of 76 in 2009.

“Shel” has been the subject of numerous articles both in the local media and national outlets, like the Rolling Stone .

Currently the San Diego Reader has an article entitled, “In defense of San Diego Comic-Con co-founder Shel Dorf – Personal POV of the original annoying comic geek,” by Jay Allen Sanford. Near the end of the article, Sanford writes:

Have you notice them? Recently renovated, remolded, sold, or added on granny flat homes that are almost identical, white houses with black trim.

Is it the work of a new Kardashian fad among home buyers and sellers? Or a massive discount on the exact same paints from an overstocked source?

Perhaps it is a rage among the Home and Garden fans. Rarely is there a developer or contractors name prominently featured on any of these homes.

Sometimes I find myself in a position of writing a story that I think will find the reader feeling good without any negative vibes. I am hoping that this tale does that for you, because it did for me.

Let me give you a fast background. I met Mona in 1992 when I was hired to be the Vocational Manager at San Diego Job Corps. Mona was the Academics Manager. Our offices were on the same floor but at opposite sides of the room, and our interactions took place numerous times during the day.

Patty is recovering from falling ill last week, and editordude spent most of Monday in bed.

Rag readers need to prepare themselves for slim-downed issues the entire week.

On some days, I am conservative. On other days, liberal, or maybe progressive. At times I believe in God. At other times, I am plagued with doubt. I believe in my right as a woman to govern the processes of my own body, but I regard abortion as a hard personal decision.

I am moderate on some days, and furiously righteous on others. I almost always believe in the goodness of others, but sometimes I am hard-pressed to find it. I do not wave the flag; I do not even salute it, because I never want what I owe to my country to become something rote, as if once I recite the words, it’s all that I expect of myself. Like all Americans underneath the skin, I defy labels.

But labels are what we live by these days. Red states. Blue states. Right-wing. Left-wing. Christian right. Atheist left.

The federal science agency is preparing to pass out an unprecedented amount of money to make the nation’s coast more resilient.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has more than $3 billion ready to fund projects that bolster natural systems which can buffer the impacts of climate change.

In California, funded projects could include sand replenishment, wetlands recovery and expansion, or natural projects that fight coastal erosion.

If you told me three years ago I would spend weeks on end isolated at home, gas would cost $6 a gallon, I’d be watching a war in Europe, and reproductive freedom would be illegal or close to it in a majority of the nation, I wouldn’t have believed you.

But the reality is that our world has changed — and this change is being thrust upon us from all directions. With the right planning and investments we can weather that change — and create a stronger, more resilient San Diego County.
