But flatland San Diegans should not even think about driving to this scene. The roads are way too dangerous for you beachgoers.

San Diego has already or is in the process of eliminating 300 parking spaces along a portion of Park Boulevard that runs through Balboa Park — in order to install “protected” bike lanes. The parking spots eliminated for the bike path were along Park Boulevard between Presidents Way and Morley Field Drive .

It’s part of a Park Blvd re-stripping project. After the resurfacing work was completed, Park Boulevard was re-striped to include a separate bike path, a single car lane and a dedicated lane for buses. To be clear, vehicle traffic lanes will be reduced to one in each direction to make way for the bus lane.

City Outlines Planned Destruction of Community Planning Groups

The reactions of some Midway-Pacific Highway Community Planning Group members, at its regular monthly meeting on February 15, resembled nothing less than a kick to the groin. That and the clear news that MCRD is not going anywhere anytime soon were the highlights of the Zoom meeting, but some idiocy involving the Community Planning Group changes came in a close third.

San Diego Housing Commission Surprise

The 20-or-so trailers that the City of San Diego received from the State of California 3 years ago for unhoused people and families are still empty and still stored on city property.

The OB Rag located 13 of the unused trailers adjacent to the City’s Rose Canyon Operation Yard at 3775 Morena Boulevard. Nice and brand new, the trailers are generally 8 feet wide by 25 or 30 feet long and are standard recreational vehicles that are towed behind cars and trucks. They have “pop-out” spare rooms and appear ready to receive needy people experiencing homelessness.

San Diego received the trailers 3 years ago under the Mayor Faulconer administration. Faulconer, obviously, did nothing with them. Then came Todd Gloria, who likewise has not done anything with them.

Councilmember Gloria Bounds to the Rescue (2013–2014)

According to the City Charter, the presiding officer of the city council has limited authority to act as mayor in the event of an unplanned vacancy in the mayor’s seat. With a wink and a nod from City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, Councilmember Todd Gloria put his feet up on the mayor’s desk and immediately got to work reorganizing city government in his own image.

Perhaps some of you remember my student Hitomi from Japan. She was with me for 5 years, and her English is now almost perfect. She has a job in Los Angeles and called to ask me if she and her friend Sean could take me to dinner the night before my birthday.  Of course I said yes, because she is almost another daughter to me.

They wanted Italian food, and the two restaurants that she called for reservations were full because it was a holiday.  But she remembered that one time the two of us went to Officine Buona Forchetta and had a delightful meal.

My two new dogs are shaking so hard I’m afraid they will have a heart attack.
