Something happened over this weekend at the other end of the country that gives us a preview of how the right is moderating its rhetoric in the post-Tucson political climate of America. The State of New Hampshire Republican Party elected its state chairperson on Saturday, and a tea party activist by the name of Jack […]

The Agenda of ‘No’

Strange are the times we live in. Never has this nation been in more desperate need of cooperation, but never before has this nation been so completely and totally divided (at least not in my lifetime). The November 2nd midterm elections are upon us, and they are sure to profoundly shape the immediate future of the United States, both politically and economically.

So what can we expect to see if the Republicans manage a coup?

Democrats are in trouble come November. If current polling is any indication, Republicans have a good chance of reclaiming a majority in the House of Representatives and perhaps even the Senate (though the Senate is a less likely prospect). That’s not because people are wildly excited about Republicans. In fact, a recent poll shows that registered voters rate the GOP’s performance as worse than the Democrats’. But the enthusiasm gap between the parties gives the GOP an advantage; a nine-point advantage among likely voters, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll .

May 7, 2009 by Frank Gormlie

On May 6th, the “new” Union-Tribune, under new management, ran an editorial, entitled “Bible of democracy”. It quoted Walter Lippmann who called newspapers “the bible of democracy”.

Is this a description of the old Union-Tribune? Hardly.

Now that Congress has gotten around to considering the “Families for ED Advertising Decency Act.” (It would limit advertisements for products like Cialis and Viagra to only be broadcast between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.), it’s clear that Republicans have time to focus their energies on bigger fish, like saving their party from extinction.

Unlike our fair city of San Diego, our nation’s capitol boasts two daily newspapers. Pretty much everybody has heard of the Washington Post since that “Watergate” thingie happened and Hollywood made a movie about how great it was and stuff. And while the Washington Post has become sad shadow of the “great” (meaning many pages) newspaper it once was, both conservatives and liberals still enjoy sitting around their victrolas and talking about the left wing conspiracies that surely must be going on behind the scenes at the paper.

On Thursday, 10 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted against an official (but non-binding) resolution declaring March 14, 2009 (3/14/09) as Pi day. The House periodically passes non-binding resolutions, but they usually pass unanimously, the like one the previous day about NASA .

Pi day, first celebrated by a bunch of scientists from San Francisco 21 years ago, honors arguably the most famous mathematical constant. Pi is defined as the circumference of a circle dividing by its diameter. The apparent reason that these GOP Reps voted against …

Michael Steele and Rush Limbaugh are the new Paris and Nicole.

For those of you who haven’t been following the news for the last few days, there’s been a nasty little spat between the newly elected Chairman of the RNCC and a certain talk show radio host. They’re saying it’s all over now, but I beg to disagree.

Michael Steele has to figure out a way past the Grand Old Party’s dismal legislative posturing in the face of an overwhelmingly popular President who may be even more Teflon coated than Saint Ronnie.

After eight years of Bushonomics, the Republican Party is now telling voters that they are concerned with the size of the Federal Deficit.

When it comes to the destruction of our economy, al Qaeda has got nothing on these people. These geniuses started an unnecessary war that has cost us up to 1 trillion dollars in Iraq. Along the way, their “highly politicized” appointees oversaw the theft/loss of billions more dollars, via no bid defense contractors.

Need a Loan? Call your Republican Congressman!

October 10, 2008 by Doug Porter

America’s economy runs on credit, and the stock and housing market slides come as credit markets everywhere hit a virtual stand-still.
