4 Palms Cut Down by City at Niagara and Cable Without Explanation

It’s not enough that city forester, Brian Widener, wants to cut down the historic palms on Newport Ave., using the excuse of public safety, and refusing to explain what the safety emergency is. His department removed four palms at the intersection of Cable and Niagara on October 28 and the city’s forester refuses to say why.

Widener was asked why in an October 29 email:

Many of you have said in the past that I am too negative; that I must be very unhappy to be able to find so many “wrong” things in the world. I wouldn’t want to disappoint you, so I have decided to add to my negativity to keep you happy.

For those of you that might share my unhappiness – I want to tell you that I am happier than I have been in a long time; people are remarking on how well I look which is nice to hear about this old lady since I just became a grandmother for the 19th time with the 20th due in a few weeks! So without further wait here it is:

I just spent a hilarious (albeit dangerous) ten minutes watching people try to navigate the new round-about in Ocean Beach.

Pyramid Schemes, Affinity Fraud, and the Business of Politics

By Mat Wahlstrom

A recent documentary series available online investigated LuLaRoe, a company that targeted women with the promise of gaining financial independence working from home, by selling quirkily patterned leggings and dresses, “creating freedom through fashion.”

In reality it was a pyramid scheme, wherein the real money was made by recruiting others into becoming sellers to recruit others to become sellers. The people at the top of a pyramid scheme get a cut of both that particular scheme’s actual product sales in addition to a cut of the buy-in fees new sellers pay to get in on it.

It’s More About Us and the Children Than Mark Z

When I look at this situation with Mark Zuckerberg hosting harmful bits of misinformation on his social media brands, Facebook and Tik Tok and Instagram, I think of the children who’re watching us, “We the People,” pretty much leave this problem up to him.

And, yeah, this non-caring billionaire should do something to alleviate this state of affairs but I don’t like the picture our children are seeing of us not doing much about these circumstances ourselves – since the PCs, through which we receive so much news that deceives, also allow us to get the skinny about things: the facts.

The G.O.A.T of All G.O.A.T.S.

By Colleen O’Connor

By way of explanation, the term G.O.A.T. was first coined by Heavyweight boxing Champion, Muhammed Ali’s wife. She borrowed his, “I am the greatest” taunts and converted them to shorthand, “G.O.A.T.”, aka the “Greatest Of All Time.”

G.O.A.T. has been applied to other “greats;” the Olympic gymnast champion, Simone Biles; basketball greats LeBron James and Michael Jordan; as well as tennis super star, Serena Williams. These greats and others are often referred to as the G.O.A.T. by fans and journalists.

Point Loma Palm Trees Have a Date in Federal Court – Tuesday, Nov.9

Frank Gormlie  November 5, 2021  3 Comments on Point Loma Palm Trees Have a Date in Federal Court – Tuesday, Nov.9

Marc Steven Applbaum, the attorney for the Point Loma couple suing to stop the Palm Trees from being chopped down, announced he has obtained a temporary injunction to stop any immediate cutting, and the future of the Palms will be decided in Federal Court next Tuesday, November 9. [KUSI]

How a decision to figure out whether the FAA / Airport / City of San Diego are all being straightforward with the citizens of Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Bankers Hill has to go to Federal Court, seems on its face ridiculous, but because with the FAA the Feds are involved, it must.

City Presentation of New OB Library Design Unsatisfactory

By Geoff Page

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into Ocean Beach’s water…

No doubt the thought of coming to Ocean Beach, to speak for the City of San Diego, strikes terror in city employees. The largely negative reaction the city received at the November 3 Ocean Planning Board meeting presentation on the new OB Library expansion was an illustration why.

The meeting Wednesday night was held at the Water’s Edge Church, which struck this writer as a bit ironic.

Despite the revolution of music-streaming, there is still a demand for hard copies of music. CD’s, vinyl records and cassette tapes are still widely available to the casual collector or the hard core connoisseur. While your local Target or Walmart might have some generic new releases, here are some local music stores that can help you find just about anything, if you’re willing to look.

Cow Records- Ocean Beach

Cow Records is located on the beach end of Newport Ave in Ocean Beach, and it’s a great store for intentional record buying. They have a wide variety of formats, both new and used vinyl records, CD’s and cassette tapes.

Collision Courses

A born and bred San Diego native decided she would like to live by the sea in Ocean Beach. She now lives in an apartment on Niagara between Sunset Cliffs and Cable and is well settled into the semi-village lifestyle of Ocean Beach. Time flowed by without major incident until a wrestler from St. Louis, MO who had gravitated to Santa Cruz, CA with his wife, also a wrestler, relocated to San Diego.

Here they leased space which has access from the alley and opened an evening live presentation venue. Among the offerings are music and comedy, but the main event is wrestling, and OB Rassle House was established.

Local Sites Make San Diego’s ‘Most Endangered List’ for 2021

Source  November 4, 2021  0 Comments on Local Sites Make San Diego’s ‘Most Endangered List’ for 2021

Several local sites have just made the “Most Endangered List” for 2021. Each year Save Our Heritage Organization issues the list. This year, the Navy’s redevelopment project at NAVWAR threatens “the heart of historic San Diego” in Old Town – so that’s on the list.

So is the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in Point Loma. And Presidio Park is still on it.
