San Diego’s Trailers for the Homeless Are Still Empty and Still Stored
The 20-or-so trailers that the City of San Diego received from the State of California 3 years ago for unhoused people and families are still empty and still stored on city property.
The OB Rag located 13 of the unused trailers adjacent to the City’s Rose Canyon Operation Yard at 3775 Morena Boulevard. Nice and brand new, the trailers are generally 8 feet wide by 25 or 30 feet long and are standard recreational vehicles that are towed behind cars and trucks. They have “pop-out” spare rooms and appear ready to receive needy people experiencing homelessness.
San Diego received the trailers 3 years ago under the Mayor Faulconer administration. Faulconer, obviously, did nothing with them. Then came Todd Gloria, who likewise has not done anything with them.
Councilmember Gloria to the Rescue – The Sins of San Diego Mayors – Part 2
By Norma Damashek / NumbersRunner / Feb. 22, 2023
Councilmember Gloria Bounds to the Rescue (2013–2014)
According to the City Charter, the presiding officer of the city council has limited authority to act as mayor in the event of an unplanned vacancy in the mayor’s seat. With a wink and a nod from City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, Councilmember Todd Gloria put his feet up on the mayor’s desk and immediately got to work reorganizing city government in his own image.

Perhaps some of you remember my student Hitomi from Japan. She was with me for 5 years, and her English is now almost perfect. She has a job in Los Angeles and called to ask me if she and her friend Sean could take me to dinner the night before my birthday. Of course I said yes, because she is almost another daughter to me.
They wanted Italian food, and the two restaurants that she called for reservations were full because it was a holiday. But she remembered that one time the two of us went to Officine Buona Forchetta and had a delightful meal.
On Being Honored in Bayard Rustin’s Name
by Ernie McCray
Just being mentioned with Bayard Rustin
would be enough to fill me with glee.
But receiving the Bayard Rustin
Lifetime Achievement Award
is mind blowing for me.
Makes me feel
like Bojangles
dancing a soft shoe
down a stairway
in a Shirley Temple movie
or on Old Broadway.
Because Bayard was a hero of mine.
Big time.

SeaWorld – Which Has Not Paid Its Rent to San Diego – Is Shooting Fireworks Off Again; Sign the Petition to Stop Them
By Judi Curry
So Sea World is at it again.
My two new dogs are shaking so hard I’m afraid they will have a heart attack.
Don’t tell me it’s my fault; don’t tell me it’s my problem; don’t tell me it’s beautiful and you like it.
It is harmful to the environment; it is harmful to ALL animals; it brings back horrific memories of our military suffering from PTSD.
Becca Taylor – From OB Town Council to Head of County Democratic Party
Some of us knew Becca Taylor as a mere mortal when she served on the Ocean Beach Town Council Board. Today she’s the head honcho of the San Diego County Democratic Party. So, who is Becca Taylor?
Ken Stone at Times of San Diego has a fairly thorough report on Taylor and begins:
Granddaughter of a preacher. Growing up Food Stamp poor in a “very conservative” Texas household. Owner of two Harleys (one named Luna). Overcoming PTSD from Afghan service.
The Sins of San Diego’s Mayors On Parade – Part 1
By Norma Damashek / NumbersRunner / Feb. 19, 2023
One thing’s for sure–San Diegans are under a gag order when it comes to naming names and identifying the corrupt, self-serving, and unethical maneuvers of many of our city’s influential players–elected and unelected–who steer the San Diego ship.
Isn’t it time to put our mayors on parade and figure out if there’s still time to change direction?
1) The Parade Starts with Mayor Susan Golding (1992-2000)
Peninsula Crashes on Sunday Take One Life, Injure One and Trap Two
Traffic accidents on Sunday, Feb. 19, around the Peninsula, took one life, injured another and trapped two.
Around 4 pm, a 60-year-old motorcycle rider died in a crash that occurred on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard near West Point Loma Boulevard. The as yet unidentified rider was headed south on a Harley-Davidson Softail Slim motorcycle when he maneuvered onto the right shoulder to pass vehicles. Instead he hit the curb and was thrown off the motorcycle.
