The OB Rag Calendar is the most complete calendar in OB because most other calendars focus on the particular group who sponsors the calendar. For example the OB Town Council, or the OB Planning Board’s respective calendars only announce their own meetings, whereas the OB Rag’s Events list both groups’ meetings.

Come to the OB Historical Society presentation, Thursday, September 18th for “the Battle of San Pasqual – Looking Through the Haze of Gunsmoke” – featuring local historian Richard L Carrico.

Ever wonder what really happened at the Battle of San Pasqual on Dec.6-7, 1846? Who really won the battle between Andres Pico and the Californios and General Kearny and the American forces?

Check this out – this has got to be one of the most strangest things that occurred during Tuesday’s crazy storm: burning palm trees in Pacific Beach – hit by lightning.

A couple of weeks ago, veteran ace U-T reporter, Lori Weisberg, did a friendly analysis of the status of Belmont Park and its “Hits and Misses”.

Pacifica Enterprises and Eat Drink Sleep are the new overseers of Belmont Park, and over the last two years of their management, have enlarged the dining places and the entertainment options, while giving the place a face-lift. This has all boosted revenues – for the owners and for the City of San Diego as it receives a share of the revenues from park sales.

A rebuke comes from the United Nation as a pattern of U.S. homeless laws violates the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination as the majority of the homeless are minorities.

A United Nations panel reviewing the U.S. record on racial discrimination has expressed unusually pointed concern over a new pattern of laws it warns is criminalizing homelessness.

The controversial technique of hydraulic fracturing is “directly linked” to the increase of earthquakes throughout the U.S. And the likelihood of these quakes getting stronger is in our future.

A team of scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey have found evidence “directly linking” the uptick in Colorado and New Mexico earthquakes since 2001 to wastewater injection, a process widely used in the controversial technique of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, and conventional drilling.

This coming Sunday, September 21st, is the People’s Climate March in New York City, here in San Diego, and elsewhere around the world.

The organizers hope that it will be “an unprecedented citizen mobilization” occurring “[a]s world leaders meet at the United Nations climate change summit” while marchers demand “the world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change;…”

A workshop has been set for tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 17th, on a Nimitz Boulevard “community vision plan”, sponsored by the Point Loma Association (PLA). It will be at 8:30 p.m. and will be held at the Point Loma Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, 2129 Chatsworth Blvd.

The workshop to discuss the community’s vision for Nimitz Boulevard will enable PLA to seek support, input and funding for further improvements along the Nimitz corridor, as they recently completed a median-enhancement project at West Point Loma Avenue and Nimitz Boulevard.

Toward that end, a Nimitz Visioning Task Force comprising Peninsula leaders and recent and past city planners has been formed.

We in Ocean Beach are so fortunate to have Scott Stephens and Liquid Blue living in our community, for this Sunday, Sept. 21- “Earthdance” is returning to San Diego and Liquid Blue is hosting the event. It will happen here in OB and across the world.

It is the world’s biggest “Peace Party” with synchronized music and dance events being held in over 600 locations in 80 countries.

For those of you that are not familiar with “Liquid Blue” let me just tell you that they are an activist musical group that has performed in over 100 countries and are based here. The band headquarters is the “Hippie House” on Sunset Cliffs which was recently designated an “International World Peace Site”.

Before the musical festivities at Winston’s, there are two additional events happening that will begin the day.
