There was another good sized crowd at the Peninsula Community Planning Board’s regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Point Loma Library. But, as it turned out, many of those attending were presenters. The biggest group was from the McMillin company, there to show the public plans for improvement at the intersection of Nimitz and Rosecrans.

The improvements were only on Rosecrans north and south of the intersection from Jewell Street to Jarvis Street, nothing was planned for Nimitz.

If anything can be believed from anyone in the Trump regime, the US “strike group” led by the the San Diego based aircraft carrier Carl Vinson is indeed heading for the Korean Peninsula.

On Saturday April 23, Trump said, “all options are on the table, ” including a military strike, according to Al Jazera, while VP Mike Pence added to the war fever escalation, stating that the the US warships would be in Korean waters “within days.”

That same day, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi told reporters in Greece, where he was visiting:

“We need to issue peaceful and rational words. China is firmly supporting the peaceful de-nuclurerization of the area in the name of stability and peace.”

Yesterday I was strolling down Newport Avenue in OB and I thought one of my favorite stores was closed.

Usually the store has rolling racks of clothes for sale outside, but there weren’t any yesterday.

One of the workers informed me that the OB Main Street Association has been addressing what exactly all the businesses are putting on the sidewalks of Newport.

Why It’s Not Crazy to Think That Trump Could Champion Universal Health Care

Universal health care in the U.S. is inevitable. It’s inevitable as long as this country remains among the league of economically developed countries. This inevitability stems from the answer to the fundamental moral question: Do all persons, regardless of wealth, deserve medical treatment? This question is essentially a rhetorical question.

The only acceptable answer in a modern civilized country is “yes.” Yet, the barbaric U.S. health care system tolerates the death of thousands of people per year attributable to lack of health coverage.

The OB Town Council is holding a contest for a new logo design for the organization.

And it’s seeking submissions from members of the OB community. The winning design will represent the unique community of Ocean Beach on all OBTC materials.

The winner will receive a $250 Visa gift card. Submissions must be in by June 5th, 2017.

Resistance to Trump Continues

Between 15,000 and 18,000 San Diegans rallied and marched and rallied again for science, Saturday, April 22nd. They also marched and rallied against Donald Trump.

They formed up at the San Diego Civic Center Plaza – then marched down Broadway to the County Administration Building and the Waterfront Park.

Panel Discussion on Recent Policy Change with Ed Harris and Fire Dept Chief

The Ocean Beach Town Council has invited San Diego Fire Department Chief Brian Fennessy and Ed Harris, leader of the San Diego Lifeguard Union, to the April 26th OB Town Council Meeting to speak on a recent policy change in the way that water distress calls are handled by the City.

Jeff Hatfield, former Lifeguard President, longtime Ocean Beach resident, and Lifeguard dispatcher will also sit on the panel.

Editor’s Note: OBcean Dave Milligan – who’s no spring puppy – took off on his bicycle April 10th and rode all the way from OB to Santa Barbara with his friend John. The amazing journey took them four days, and it’s recounted in detail here in Dave’ daily log. Dave called it “to heaven and back”.

Day One: Sunday morning, wake up my good friend and riding partner, John, at 5:30. The edge of a new day is barely apparent. It’s quiet in Ocean Beach, it will be another half hour until we can see to ride, and another half hour beyond that until Lindberg Field sounds its general area wake-up alarm. A quick protein bar and banana and we are off down the alley and on the streets, a little after 6:00.
