Watch “Terriers” while you still can – 5 more reasons to see it …

Source  October 27, 2010  15 Comments on Watch “Terriers” while you still can – 5 more reasons to see it …

It’s an unfortunate fact that often the most creative, highest-quality shows on TV struggle to find enough viewers to survive. That’s what’s happening right now with FX’s new private-eye series, “Terriers.” It’s hands-down the best new series of the fall, yet no one’s watching. That has to change — come on people, don’t let this be one of those shows you discover on DVD a year from now and go “Huh, this is great, why didn’t I watch this back before it got canceled?”

Cancellation is where “Terriers” is headed unless it can show improvement in the ratings by season’s end. The season’s half over …

Why should we concerned about imperialism and militarism? It’s a suicide pact. That’s the way empires end… ~Chalmers Johnson.

Sessions Public is a nice place to take your honey

By Jenny Montgomery / San Diego CityBeat

I’m wary of restaurants that spend too much time on just-so décor. Perfect design and attention to the hippest of trends often means food is an after-thought. H

The OB Rag – 3 years ago: ‘born in the crucible of fire’

Frank Gormlie  October 18, 2010  2 Comments on The OB Rag – 3 years ago: ‘born in the crucible of fire’

When the OB Rag website first started publishing three years ago, the massive October 2007 fire was raging across San Diego County. Our blog/ website was hatched in the midst of fire, born under fire, so to speak. The fire and the responses to it raised all kinds of issues that we began addressing.

Here are a few of the posts that we wrote and published about the fires – and a few other issues – during that period:

Five Reasons to Watch the Ocean Beach ‘Terriers’

Source  October 13, 2010  20 Comments on Five Reasons to Watch the Ocean Beach ‘Terriers’

The fall season hasn’t treated new shows kindly. With few exceptions, not many programs made a critical splash, and one of the few that did (‘Lone Star’) got the boot after just two episodes.

It’s all well and good to think in theoretical terms about what can be done to ensure that only the safest, most inoffensive and blandest programming gets the green light in the near future. But I’m here to propose a simpler, more concrete, and potentially more effective way to combat a future slew of boring TV: watch FX’s ‘Terriers.’

Lost in the shuffle in more ways than one, ‘Terriers’ had quietly produced five consecutively strong episodes right out of the gate.

Reader Rant: An Alternative to “Pink October”

Source  October 13, 2010  6 Comments on Reader Rant: An Alternative to “Pink October”

I wrote the first part – below – in response to the pink blindness I see everywhere. It has been a pet peeve of mine for many moons. It (pink ribbons) has been exploited for profit and now that Kentucky Fried Chicken jumped on the bandwagon it is so laughable. The very worst food for Health promotes BC Awareness?

MANY SAN DIEGO EVENTS – LISTED INSIDE

From the 350.org website:
Dear World,

It’s been a tough year: in North America, oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico; in Asia some of the highest temperatures ever recorded; in the Arctic, the fastest melting of sea ice ever seen; in Latin America, record rainfalls washing away whole mountainsides.

So we’re having a party.

Circle 10/10/10 on your calendar. That’s the date.

The Rolling Stone Interview of Barack Obama

The following is an article from the October 15, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone.

We arrived at the southwest gate of the white house a little after one o’clock on the afternoon of September 17th. It was a warm fall day, but the capital felt quiet and half-empty, as it does on Fridays at the end of summer, with Congress still in recess.

The Great Bumper Sticker ‘Wars’ Over the Years

The recent sticker “wars” in Ocean Beach have reminded me of just how much a student of bumper stickers I really am – and one of my favorites was circa 1969. Highlighting the political tension in America back in the late Sixties and early Seventies, this one was quite famous: “America: Love it or leave it.” It had the flag either in the background or on the side.

William Shatner – up to his neck in “$#*!” – stars in new TV comedy inspired by Point Loman’s twitter

Frank Gormlie  September 22, 2010  2 Comments on William Shatner – up to his neck in “$#*!” – stars in new TV comedy inspired by Point Loman’s twitter

Editor: “Terriers” is not the only new TV series that has an uber-local connection. There’s a new CBS series that starts Thursday, September 23rd, based on the twitters of a young man from Point Loma – Justin Halpern – who wrote down the spicy and witty sayings uttered by his cranky 74 year old father, a retired doctor. And William Shatner is playing the dad.

Terriers Series Premiere Review: Season Pilot – Great On-Screen Chemistry

Source  September 11, 2010  3 Comments on Terriers Series Premiere Review: Season Pilot – Great On-Screen Chemistry

C’mon, what else are we going to do, cure cancer?”

Terriers is not a spin-off of Best in Show. In fact it’s the furthest thing from a show about dogs, unless the title is a play on the makeup of its lead characters—dynamic, tough and fearless. Terriers is the latest brainchild from Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield).

Donal Logue (Grounded for Life, Damages) stars in this surf and turf crime series as Hank Dolworth, a former cop turned unlicensed investigator.
