WOW… this picture sure brings back a memory shock. I had forgotten about this very cool formation.
P.S. did this shot come from Stephen Rowell.
It’s a postcard.
You guys do know that legend has it that some one rode their surfboard through the “Needle’s Eye”. As someone who surfed “Needle’s Eye” a few times,A long time ago.’71 – ’72 ish. It is probably just a rumour, but that’s how legends get started. But it is a high tide spot even though the “Needle’s Eye” is narrow, I guess you could stuff a human on a 9’4″ tank through the hole. More likely some fool fell through the hole at “Luscomb’s” and lived to tell it.
Yes Mr Rick, I do know the legion. My Dad was one of the first surfers in OB, and I stared surfing in 1960 (and the needle’s eye was still there). We surfed big boards as you say, I, just a kid surfed a 9′ . I have pictures of my dad with a 12′ plank on his shoulder. I’m thinken… small waves, real big boards, and the fact that surfing started some time in the 40’s in OB with dare devil’s riding Harley’s, hot cars, and rolling there smokes in there sleeves, and calling them selves Beat’s. Hey, I think the needle was shot many times.
P.S. I do dig your last line..”More likely some fool fell through the hole at “Luscomb’s” and lived to tell it.”
