Contamination signs have been posted at Dog Beach due to a sewage spill up in Linda Vista. The warning signs were posted today – Wednesday – at Dog Beach – where the San Diego River enters the ocean. It’s estimated that around 4,150 gallons of sewage spilled, contaminating Dog Beach – all from grease blocking a main sewer line.

The city’s Public Utilities Department said it occurred about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 7011 Linda Vista Road, near Ulric Street.

Philadelphia Eagles third string quarterback Michael Vick has drawn protests from animal rights groups around the country this fall, and San Diego was no exception. Members of the San Rafael-based In Defense of Animals staged a small demonstration at Dog Beach on Sunday and police radio reports from Qualcomm Stadium indicated that protesters were picketing entrances to the Chargers-Eagles match up on Sunday.

As of 9 this morning (7-1-09) the danger signs are still up at Dog Beach where the S.D. river meets the ocean but the difference is that today nobody (dogs or people ) were in the water. … more inside

MSNBC reported that a sewer spill has closed Dog Beach in OB. The spill, they reported, involved nearly 15,000 gallons and originated from the Adobe Falls area east of here.

Dave Gilbert checked it out this morning and found OBceans ignoring the stay-out signs. Here’s his report ….

At the northwest end of Ocean Beach sits a sandy respite known as Dog Beach. Nothing more needs to be said. It is a local wonder, an international destination, and a model for all other ‘dog parks’. Everybody who has a dog has been there. In fact, we kind of glorify the place.
