Some Folks We Have to Out Vote

by Ernie McCray

It seems to me
that the most bothersome aspect
regarding Donald J
talking out of his asshole
about Iran
taking out Los Angeles
and San Diego,
should be the cheers of support that rose
from his followers.

I mean there wasn’t a single boo
that escaped the lips
of the MAGA folks
this traitorous felon
was talking to
and that leaves one to wonder
how anybody,
with an ounce of love in their soul,
never mind their politics
or points-of-views
or personal situations,
can be okay

with their fellow citizens

being looked down upon

in such a cold-hearted

unjust way,

especially at a time

when anxiety in communities

across the nation

is running high

and groceries and gas prices

are sky high,

weighing heavily

on our mental and psychological wellbeing,

making our wishes to turn the situation around

seem like pie in the sky schemes,

leaving us

in a do-or-die situation

knowing that there are people

like those

at the president’s rally

who sloganize

and jive

about America First

and the like

when what they really want

is a government

that has the promotion of white supremacy

and the deportation of people-of-color

at the top of its agenda –

like way back in the good old days

when America was great

in their opinion.

But no matter what one thinks of them

they do one thing very well:

they vote like hell.

And over time it has been said that particular elections

were the most critical in U.S. history,

rhetorical claims that can be challenged,

but such a belief

just might be a reality

in the upcoming midterms

considering that we have a demon of a president

who wakes up everyday

intent on bringing our country to its knees.

All to say

we had better show up at the polls

and out vote these folks

and keep alive

our precious democracy.

I was raised in a loving and alive home, in a black neighborhood filled with colorful characters in Tucson, Arizona. Such an environment gave me a hint that life has to be grabbed by the tail as tight as a pimple on a mosquito's butt. With no BS and a whole lot of love. So, from those days to now I get up every morning set on making the world a better place. On my good foot*, and I hope my writing reflects that. *an old black expression
