Bailey Supporters Playing Dirty in District 2 Campaign — With Lies that Try to Connect Crosby With Mayor Gloria

This morning, Tuesday, a Rag reader was leaving one of the local dog parks and saw these signs posted illegally on Nimitz by the dog park in the OB / Point Loma area.

The signs clearly state that “Nicole Crosby stands with MAYOR TODD GLORIA.” The small print says they’ve been paid for by the Lincoln Club Business League PAC.

It also says the signs were not authorized by a candidate or a candidate-controlled committee.

Why would someone place them on the sides of local roads? Who benefits? It’s not Gloria’s supporters so it must be Crosby’s opponent in the campaign for the District 2 city council seat, Richard Bailey — or else his supporters, like the Lincoln Club. He can claim denial. They can claim they didn’t put them on the side of the road. Our diligent reader writes the group’s website confirms its registered PAC name and FPPC ID 1488638.

Small print says “Ad paid for by Lincoln Club Business League PAC”

But one thing is clear. Bailey’s supporters are now playing dirty, trying to paste Nicole onto Todd. And yes, it’s a lie. It’s also a sign of desperation on their part.

The Rag reader had this to say:

Let it be known Nicole is on record saying she finds Todd Gloria “incompetent.” And also on record that she does not support Todd Gloria and is running to fix the neglect from Jen Campbell. MAGA is playing dirty and spreading lies.

My political group Good Trouble added our own sign. Please post about Baileys support spreading lies.

  1. I saw the Crosby signs on Genesee between Claremont Mesa and Balboa today, also saw them on Claremont Mesa between Genesee and Claremont Drive

  2. I would be interested to see the proof of where she has denounced Todd, I watched two debates and did not hear this at all.

The negative money is very telling in this race, link from the League of Women Voters here:

I love the RAG but don’t think she is worth an endorsment while understanding why he would not get one.

    1. Yeah, thanks JD; the League of Women Voters info clearly shows the kind of “dark” money Bailey has raised, all the outside district cash that has flowed into his coffers, whereas Crosby has raised mostly local funds.

And because you love the Rag, no comment on the dirty politics Bailey supporters are playing. We called them out on it and you had nothing to say.

      1. This is typical of our modern two party system. And a lot of people, especially establishment Dems and so called progressives have lost the forest for the trees. Many have bought into this idea of “us vs them” and preventing “them” from winning has become as important or even more important than actually getting real, progressive candidates in office. We all see it with Fox News and “owning the libs”, but this two party system has caused many on the left to act this way as well.

The idea, as far as I see it is: “Bailey is bad, so we have to do everything we can to prevent him from winning, including endorsing a candidate that we may not otherwise like because she is the only thing stopping him from winning”

And then of course, if you don’t stand up and make your voice heard on every issue, at every time that certain people have an issue with something or someone, you’re the problem and might as well be working with the enemy.

        1. Okay Jeff, you make some good points, but this same observation could have been expressed at any time over the last 2 decades. Remember all those republicans who wanted to impeach Clinton? Remember the war begun with a lie? Things have changed: one party is trying to overturn American democracy and establish an all-white neo-fascist regime and is the enabler of the most corrupt administration in our history; the other is trying to figure out what to do but still believes in the rule of law.

This is not ‘a one-side is as bad as the other’ time. Bailey voted for a neo-fascist 3 times — this clearly shows his values. Trump is a traitor and all those politicians who have supported him must be held accountable. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh but we live in harsh times.

      2. Please answer to JD’s remark:
“ I would be interested to see the proof of where she has denounced Todd, I watched two debates and did not hear this at all”

      3. Frank, Crosby only has money because of the unions. Personally I don’t think they should be allowed to financially participate in campaigns. There have to be many members who don’t agree with their political choices and yet they aren’t consulted. And not all of their members live in D2.

To your other comment about Richard’s supporters, do you include me and my husband as “dark money” supporters? Because we only use our money in our PAC and we have lived in D2 for 40 years.

        1. Saying that unions shouldn’t be able to financially participate is insane. If union members have a problem with who their unions are supporting they can try to make changes from within, or they can leave the union.

But to say that they shouldn’t be allowed to do what they’re doing is just crazy in our current political (financing) climate.

        2. So, unions can’t use their money for candidates but business and corporate entities can is that it?s Chambers of Commerce, Lincoln clubs — go right ahead, but damn those people who have to work for a living – they can’t. Fairly narrow view, Carol, what happened to free speech?

          1. The US Supreme Court ruled that freedom of speech allows corporations to spend at will on campaigns. Citizens United.

  3. There was a U-Haul parked on Chatsworth at Nimitz with a huge sign saying the same thing. It was as big as the entire side of the U-Haul.

  4. Bailey’s claim that a portion of TOT collected in a community will stay in the community is a huge lie. On one hand he claims that the TOT is necessary revenue, but then he carves out money to return. There is no mechanism to do this as far as I know. So, huge distortion of the truth.
