Frankie Montas signed a one-year, $16 million deal with the Reds in early January even after shoulder surgery limited him to one relief appearance last year. The Tigers will pay Jack Flaherty $16 million despite the 28-year-old flirting with a 5.00 ERA in 2023. Luis Severino (6.65 ERA), Kyle Gibson (4.73 ERA) and Lance Lynn (5.73 ERA) will all make more than $10 million this year.

Geez, what a difference a day makes, eh? There’s so much more snow than yesterday.

There’s been more fallout from the scandal within the Ocean Beach Town Council that was revealed to the community at their last meeting on Jan. 24.

Tracy Dezenso just announced that she was resigning from the Board of Directors after serving on it for two and a half years.

The City has published a notice for a proposed emergency repair for a secant pile wall to protect the cliffs below the Inn at 1370 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. The notice was posted February 2, 2024.

A three-judge panel from the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday unanimously ruled against former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of immunity in a criminal case stemming from his efforts to overturn his 2020 loss.

The current storm that has been crossing San Diego has brought some snow to our higher elevations, like Mt. Laguna — but not to Lake Cuyamaca or Julian.

Women will determine the outcome. About that, there is little doubt.  A seismic shift has occurred since the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and remove a woman’s right to control her own body.

The Ocean Beach Planning Board has switched its monthly meeting days to the first Tuesday of every month.

So, Tuesday, Feb. 6 is their next meeting date. They still meet of course at the OB Rec Center at 4726 Santa Monica at 6pm.

The Board released the following statement:

In response to our community asking for a meeting time that does not coincide with the Farmers Market, the OBPB will be holding meetings on the 1st TUESDAY of every month.

The Beacon reports that the Ocean Beach community is rallying to support Lighthouse Ice Cream on Newport Avenue after a fire damaged the local landmark.

 “We lost every single thing in our shop,” said owner Carol Ladiges. “The smoke from the fire did the most damage. Everything had to be dried out because of the water damage from the fire hoses. Insurance will cover most of the structural damage, employees’ wages, and some of the personal property. There will be out-of-pocket expenses as things pop up.”

San Diego’s Naval Information Warfare Systems Command accounts for more than $3.1 billion in gross regional product (GRP) for the economy, according to a report released last week by the San Diego Military Advisory Council and the University of San Diego’s Knauss School of Business.

The report compiled by USD researchers found that in Fiscal Year 2022, NAVWAR was responsible for between $3.14 billion and $3.38 billion in GRP. Additionally, it employs more than 5,300 people and, when wages and benefits are considered, that workforce brings $910 million to the local economy.
