Storm Brings Snow to San Diego’s Higher Elevations

The current storm that has been crossing San Diego has brought some snow to our higher elevations, like Mt. Laguna — but not to Lake Cuyamaca or Julian.

Here’s the live cam at Mt. Laguna Lodge, at Lake Cuyamaca and at Julian just minutes ago.

UPDATE: Here’s Mt Laguna Lodge just minutes before noon. It’s snowing right now – compare with photo above taken at 9:45 am or so.

The elevation of the Lodge is 6500 feet, of Lake Cuyamaca 4600 and of Julian 4235 feet.

  1. We’re on another flood watch here at Rag HQ. It rained all night – I know, I had to get up and check the level of rainwater in front of our front porch a couple of times overnight and stayed up till 1230 last night. We have a pump ready if water gets into our basement (again). So far, the rain hasn’t been nearly as bad as it was on Jan.22 when our basement was flooded and we lost our furnace. Water in the garage is only patchy – it had gotten up to 7 inches inside on the 22nd.

  2. I just received a tornado alert or warning in my area until 12:15pm. I was advised to take shelter now in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

A second warning extended the emergency alert time to 12:45 pm.

    1. TORNADO WARNING just south of San Diego! Definitely not something you see everyday!

But there is a rotating thunderstorm capable of a tornado in South Central San Diego County. The storm is moving away from the coast, NE at 35 mph.

Also: The warning is in effect until 12:15 p.m. for a stretch of East County and the South Bay, according to the National Weather Service. Pea-sized hail could also be possible in these communities, including Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City and Santee.
