“Ceasefire in Gaza” rally this Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at Noon in the Ocean Beach area !!

Come join a growing number of your friends and neighbors, 40 folks last Saturday, our largest group ever, standing out on a busy corner in Ocean Beach, demanding a CEASEFIRE in Gaza, and demanding that the U.S. stop providing Israel with weapons that have already killed 35,000+ Gazans.

The 44th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off offers attendees eclectic fun in the sun for all ages. Tens of thousands of visitors will attend the event from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024, for a tasty festival nosh, art, beachfront entertainment, shopping, and more.

As of this writing, 2 pm, Thursday, June 20th, Rag writer Geoff Page can report that the City has not done a thing about the dangerous crack in the bluff at Sunset Cliffs. Page just visited the site — and witnessed a number of beach goers — and a child or a pet — directly below the cracked bluff section.

Geoff reported there was no caution tape or any kind of warning at the beach near the bluff endangered.

The Rag notified the city yesterday, June 19, of the situation at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park and Page met with 3 lifeguards in the afternoon.

Dozens of homeowners and renters in the Clairemont/Bay Ho neighborhood will stage a protest demonstration focused on the City of San Diego’s refusal to halt the destructive and illegal construction by a developer who is cramming 12 so-called “Accessory Dwelling Units” on a single family lot abutting a canyon.

As it seems like it happens so often these days, large trees are cut down either on or near public property and the community is not informed, notified or sought out for advice.

It has happened again — this time at Liberty Station, the former Naval Training Center. At least 20 large what appear to be ficus trees have been chopped down completely around High Tech High and even the stumps have been ground down.

Early one morning in 2022, Christy Gillette was woken by sheriff’s deputies.

The officers told her to move or face arrest. Gillette, who’s now 51, had been sleeping outside near the Santee Drive-In and responded that she couldn’t leave without her walker. The deputies instead threw the walker away, along with the cremated ashes of her husband and son.

Marking its centennial this year, Ocean Beach Woman’s Club has something special to help its celebration along with its milestone brew.

Bill DeWitt of California Wild Ales, and Jim Millea, head brewer of OB Brewing have collaborated to craft “Making Waves Blonde,” a centennial-hops ale made especially for OBWC’s centennial anniversary. The new brew will officially be dedicated on the summer solstice from OB Brewery’s rooftop bar.

This November, the voters of San Diego face a binary choice. To continue the way the City is going, under the leadership of a mayor whose policies over the last 3 1/2 years have been an absolute nightmare for the citizens of what once was America’s Finest City. Todd Gloria, the current incumbent, continues to push unrealistic, poorly thought out policies, particularly in the areas of land use and development, which if not stopped, will be the end of San Diego as we know it.

Rag reporter Geoff Page met with several lifeguards from the OB tower at the parking lot at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park.

He took them to the site of  the dangerous bluff crack — and told me by phone that it looked worse from on top the bluff. The main guard agreed with him that it looked very dangerous.
