The OB Rag is holding a contest and inviting submissions from the public to identify the “Worst ADU” in San Diego county [ Ed: actually just the City of San Diego]
Until Friday, Aug. 23, The OB Rag is looking for the worst accessory dwelling units (ADU) in the city. Winners will receive gift cards to a variety of local restaurants.
The contest is an effort to raise public awareness about the real-world impacts of what critics call predatory construction of ADUs, including the construction of multi-story apartments and large-scale home projects crammed into tiny areas of a neighborhood.
The journalist and TV show host, who died Sunday at the age of 88, made his mark on our society. He fought for the underdog. He did it with style and grace and a wonderful sense of humor. He changed my life and the lives of so many others.

Phil Donahue passed away Sunday night, after a long illness. He was beloved by those who knew him and by many who didn’t.
He started as a local reporter in Ohio, was a trailblazer in bringing social issues to a national audience as a daytime broadcast TV host, and then he was pretty-much banished from TV by MSNBC because he—accurately, correctly, and morally—questioned the horrific U.S. invasion of Iraq.

Here is the U-T Editorial Board criticizing San Diego Mayor Gloria, again:
The never-ending stories coming out of City Hall that make San Diegans incredulous, angry or both continued this week when details of a 50-page report by City Auditor Andy Hanau went public. It documented how often Mayor Todd Gloria and his staff violated contracting rules by increasing spending limits without City Council approval. The audit found that contract changes totaling $155 million were sent to the council for review later than required, after the funds were spent or not at all.
Goal of $3,000 Surpassed Over Weekend
I am speechless and overwhelmed at the support the Rag has received these last few days during our summer fundraising campaign. And that is a rarity.
We began the campaign last Wednesday, August 7, and set a goal of $3,000. We nearly reached that in just 3 days. And over the weekend, the outpouring of monetary donations not only got us to the goal but shot us to a total so far of $3,730! And that’s not counting pledges and checks sent the Rag to our PO Box.
Incredible. In less than 3 days, the OB Rag fundraising campaign has reached 80% of our goal of $3,000! As of this writing, we’ve received donations totaling $2,370. Somebody likes us, despite our vocal detractors.
Here’s 13 Reasons to Support the OB Rag:
For the last bunch of years, the OB Rag has held our annual summer fundraising campaign during the month of August. And it’s that time of year again!
We only do this once a year, so help us reach our goal of $3,000 over the next two weeks. We do have bills — and our server bill just went up to $900. We do pay some of our reporters and writers a small amount, usually $35 to $50 an article, plus we have subscription bills and utilities to pay.
Over this last year, the Rag has become the online platform for dissatisfied residents of many neighborhoods besides Ocean Beach and Point Loma – disgruntled and frustrated fellow citizens upset with the leadership of the city – people from University City, Hillcrest, Mira Mesa, Pacific Beach, Barrio Logan, Southeast — the list keeps growing.
The U-T’s online magazine, the Point Loma-Ocean Beach Monthly, will now charge readers – as they established a paywall last Friday, June 21.
The publication warned its readers:

Doomed affairs often languish until one final transgression breaks the glass. For legions of Cox customers in San Diego, that break may have come with the wholesale dumping of Cox email accounts into unwanted Yahoo email accounts.
Every year, the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists hosts an event called “Walls and Windows” in order “to honor those in our community who have worked hard to expand the public’s right to know by fighting for transparency — and hold accountable those who have stifled these efforts.”
This year, they awarded the “Sunshine Award” to Will Carless — a former San Diego journalist — who works for USD Today. The award “goes to a journalist or community member who went above and beyond to make the government more transparent and hold elected officials accountable.”
And the Society awarded the “Wall Award” to San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, and here’s why:
