There was a photo accompanying today’s San Diego U-T report on last night’s District 2 candidate forum at the Point Loma Library. But the photo is very suspicious. It’s very unflattering of Nicole Crosby — it shows her with her face all scrunched up, furrowed brow as she jabs her finger while being very emphatic while Richard Bailey sits there cool as a cucumber (which he is not, by the way).
The photo is a reflection of the old sexist attitudes about women — always emotional, always upset at something, while the male sits there with a near smile on his face.
Just another nitpick, eh? A photo says a thousand words, they say, and this one says ‘look, the woman candidate is just too unsettled.’ To be clear, the photo itself is not sexist, but the choice of it is.
The Rag report of the forum is on its way – and we expect to publish it around 2 p.m.

Agree that the SDUT photo is not flattering.

The photo shown at the top of this article is not from the forum at the Library.
You are right about that.
Okay, you’re correct; of course that doesn’t change anything really. The Rag report will be here momentarily.
Jesus. DEI again. Your reading too much into this. Of coarse Bailey is sitting there cool and calm. He isn’t talking ! Crosby comes across as very serious who wants to make a point. Period. I don’t know anything about these two candidates. Hell I don’t even know what parties they belong to. Just my impression of the photo.
I agree, this awful photo seems to be an intentional choice and one not supportive of Nicole. As someone who attended the forum, I’ll say she was intelligent and well-spoken and a truly credible candidate. She certainly deserves more than this photo.
