It’s Time for the Annual Summer OB Rag Fundraiser! Help Us Keep It Goin’!

For the last bunch of years, the OB Rag has held our annual summer fundraising campaign during the month of August. And it’s that time of year again!

We only do this once a year, so help us reach our goal of $3,000 over the next two weeks. We do have bills — and our server bill just went up to $900. We do pay some of our reporters and writers a small amount, usually $35 to $50 an article, plus we have subscription bills and utilities to pay.

Over this last year, the Rag has become the online platform for dissatisfied residents of many neighborhoods besides Ocean Beach and Point Loma – disgruntled and frustrated fellow citizens upset with the leadership of the city – people from University City, Hillcrest, Mira Mesa, Pacific Beach, Barrio Logan, Southeast — the list keeps growing.

For some reason, locals are having trouble gaining traction about their travails from the mainstream or other online media and press. So, increasingly, they look to the Rag for support.

As the Rag is a platform of and for citizen journalists, we are often there for them.

So, help us keep it going.

Frank Gormlie
A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. Since you NEVER post any of my comments, you defender of the first amendment, why should I support you as I’ve done in the past?

    1. Well, that’s odd. How would I know the editor never posts any of your comments without reading that here – in the comments?

    2. John, you’ve been commenting here for years and then you went straight into trump’s banana republic. Besides politics, we have important local meeting announcements and reports, plus other local news that you cannot get anywhere else all together. So, that’s why.

  2. Yep, I’m sending a check off, too, Frank. Glad to see people stepping up!

  3. But I still have a space in my heart where my birth-town resides even if it isn’t the place it was when I grew up there and in MB. The memories in my brain of both places are part of who I am still, so does that mean a piece of me is still floating around down there somewhere? Ha!

96’F in the heat again today in these mountains. Dodging the wildfires still…so enjoy your cool ocean breezes for me!
