Anne Gorsuch’s brief, troubled tenure as EPA administrator had to have influenced the outlook of her then impressionable 16-year-old son.

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court, in its latest rollback of precedent and law voted 6-3 to strip the EPA of its ability—under the Clean Air—to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants during a global heat wave and expanding climate emergency. While Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion, Justice Neil Gorsuch,
Newer, better UV-blocking agents have been in use in other countries for years. Why can’t we have them here?

At 36, I am just old enough to remember when sunscreen wasn’t a big deal. My mom, despite being among the palest people alive, does not remember bringing it on our earliest vacations, or hearing any mention of sun protection by our pediatrician. …
The preponderance of babies in rashguards and bucket hats that you now see at the beach shows how much has changed, and how quickly.

California lawmakers declared a momentous victory against plastic pollution on Thursday when Governor Gavin Newsom approved a far-reaching bill to reduce plastic production, signing it into law just hours before a looming deadline.
The Plastic Pollution Producer Responsibility Act, widely considered the “strongest” plastic reduction policy in the nation, requires a 25 percent reduction of single-use plastic packaging and foodware — both by weight and by the number of items — within the next 10 years. The bill zoomed through the California Legislature this week, passing the state Assembly by 66 to 1 on Wednesday evening before clearing the Senate without opposition on Thursday morning.

Presidio Park, Serra Museum Parking Lot and Ramp Project Needs Improvement
By Bruce Coons/ Save Our Heritage Organization Newsletter / July-August 2022
SOHO has concerns about the ADA/catering parking lot and ramp project for the Junípero Serra Museum that is being pressed by the City of San Diego without benefit of public review.
The parking lot and ADA path project is precisely located at the site of the casamata (fort), which was constructed on high ground to defend the Spanish presidio.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria finally fessed up this week to having negotiated a backroom settlement deal to bail out his developer bros (and to end pesky legal cases that were uncovering all of the misdeeds of both his and his predecessor’s administrations) by doubling down and paying over $84 million for a building that requires visitors to wear life-saving hazmat suits in order to enter.
But, that’s not even the worst part.
The Imperial Beach fireworks show that was set to take place on July 4 is now canceled and will be replaced with a high-tech drone show, according to officials.
Fire potential from traditional fireworks is the one of the reasons behind the change as well as reducing noise, smoke and debris, City Manager Andy Hall stated in a press release Monday.
Officials say they are “excited to introduce a new way to enjoy the 4th of July” as the drone show synchronizes with music that will broadcast at Pier Plaza and be available on personal devices from the city’s website.

Airbnb announced on Tuesday, June 28, that it will make permanent a ban on parties originally implemented in the early months of the pandemic, citing its effectiveness at curbing unauthorized gatherings.
The company announced a temporary ban on all parties in August 2020 as part of an effort to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 through social distancing efforts. It also followed reports of Airbnb customers throwing unauthorized ragers in the homes they rented through the platform.
