I’m writing today to let you know of a huge travesty going on in this town of ours.

In just under a month the annual Earth Day Fair will be going on. Thousands will gather in Balboa Park to celebrate life, the planet, tolerance and humanity.

Unfortunately, though, some will be excluded from this event.

One group will be the San Diego Libertarian Party. We have been told that our message of liberty is not welcome at the fair, and we are also accused of not having genuine concern about a clean, healthy environment.

We are very saddened by this, and there could be nothing further from the truth.

I’ve seen ads in CityBeat for the past couple of months featuring a large pink Lichtenstein-ian tentacle pouring a draft beer and the tagline “San Diego’s Only Tap House on the Water”. Tentacles, beer, and an address on Shelter Island (1776 Shelter Island Drive, 92106) that I couldn’t immediately place. Mysterious and involving beer? I was intrigued and recently made a visit.

The mystery deepened when I arrived at the address (directed by my smartphone navigation app) and saw no bar or restaurant in sight, nor a sign directing me to one.

On Wednesday night, March 27, at the monthly OB Town Council meeting, local community members had the opportunity to hear updates and ask questions directly from their city representative, Councilmember Kevin Faulconer.

Faulconer gave brief updates on the status of the pilot program he is proposing that will restrict the parking of oversized vehicles in the beach areas. Called the Neighborhood Parking Protection or the Oversized Vehicle Ordinance, it proposes to restrict vehicles more than 7 feet tall and 22 feet in length from parking overnight on city streets between the hours of 10pm-6am.

Residents and their guests who wish to park overnight may obtain 72 hour permits to do so. Planning Board member Giovanni Ingolia asked if the ordinance will go to the OB Planning Board for review, and Faulconer stated it is their intention that the OBPB review the ordinance, which is now published online on the City’s website.

From banner changes to types of articles published, the San Diego Free Press – the on-line daily journal for San Diego County has apparently made a 180 degrees turn from its prior stance.

We at the OB Rag are very concerned with these changes, as the SDFP was our baby. We re-birthed the online publication back on June 4, 2012.

Mayor Filner Joins Forces with New York City Mayor Bloomberg

San Diego and New York City mayors take aim at sugary soft drinks

In a speech yesterday at the Balboa Park Club, Mayor Bob Filner outlined his plans for combating the consumption of large quantities of sugary, fizzy soft drinks. (Go to remainder of post.)

There was a twist to the domestic violence incident that occurred in Point Loma the night of Saturday, March 30th. The woman involved went to jail and the male went to the hospital. Usually, it’s the other way around.

This time, the woman allegedly stabbed the guy – her boyfriend – in the arm during an argument at 3266 Loma Riviera Drive in Point Loma, police say.

San Diego Police officer David Stafford stated to the press:

“A woman in her late 30s got into an argument with her boyfriend. and she took out a knife and stabbed him in the arm.”

After having purchased and transformed the San Diego Union Tribune into America’s greatest newspaper in the Finest City in the World’s Best Darn Country, Doug Manchester is at it again. This time he has set his sights on the nation’s pastime and is aiming to put it back on the map for good by bringing an even more super American brand of baseball to the place where happy happens.

Change of course, is not just what will be left in your pocket after the Socialist in Chief leaves the White House, it’s the order of the day at Manchester Park, home of the San Diego Robber Barons. Swap out the statue of Tony Gwyn for one of the Lord Manchester himself and toss the swinging friar down the memory hole and replace him with that plucky little Carl DeMaio who will rove the stands passing out complementary reports on the inefficiency of local government and the scourge of pubic sector unionism.

As for the team, it’s been outsourced with all the players now coming from undisclosed third world nations and being paid at rates comparable to those they would receive in their native lands.
