OB Global, Let’s go to the OB Sock Hop!

Maybe you’ve noticed some of these cool posters popping up in many of our local shop windows lately. I have, but if you haven’t here’s one of the neatest things going on here in OB this month. It’s the OBGlobal Silent Auction and Sock Hop and it will be happening here this November 14th at the Point Loma Masonic Center, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. 92107

This is going to be a pretty awesome event put on by OBceans that really care about our community and beyond! I should point out that this OBGlobal is a different organization than the one that put on a very cool concert here last April, but by no means are their causes any less important. On the contrary, they are a very noble group of locals, friends, neighbors and compassionate citizens who are committed to global mission projects.

OB Music Community – a golden garden tended with love and enthusiasm

Winston’s? Sounds good!

Hey man! You want to know what OB’s coolest new best kept secret is? They just started this here in October so you may not be (as they say) hep to the jive, but it’s Happy Hour at Winston’s every Thursday evening from 5 til 8 pm. I don’t know about you, but I completely dig a no cover charge to hear some of Southern California’s best musical artists and acts perform at a great live venue while Kate the bartender serves up some great libations. Hey, maybe you’ve just always wanted to perform for your friends and others at a local night spot. A place that has national acts and yet still doesn’t break the bank while you knock back $2 “Nati Lites”, $3 “PBRs” and/or $2 house shots.

Woodstock 40: “we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden”

Huh? I couldn’t decipher what Joni Mitchell had written because I couldn’t understand the lyrics that CSN&Y were singing, at least when I first heard the song Woodstock, but the music sure resounded in and through my heart, soul & being.
.
Hopefully we can all agree that everybody wants to find their niche’ in life, to know where they fit in on this big blue marble, and hopefully leave at least a beautiful memory or 3 to those who both loved you and you loved in return

I’m a little more than surprised that 11 days after the Marsh Mallow fights of 2009 have ended, that the mess at Veteran’s Rock still remains.

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words so here’s what it still looks like down there after all of that “fun” has subsided.

MSNBC reported that a sewer spill has closed Dog Beach in OB. The spill, they reported, involved nearly 15,000 gallons and originated from the Adobe Falls area east of here.

Dave Gilbert checked it out this morning and found OBceans ignoring the stay-out signs. Here’s his report ….

‘We all had a great time’ – musically speaking – at the OB Street Fair

June 28, 2009 by Dave Gilbert

by Dave Gilbert

I love the OB street fair! I look forward to it the way a kid looks forward to Christmas. Yesterday’s was certainly no exception. I got an early start and showed up around 10 a.m. because my plan was to catch both John Taffola’s set and Bart Mendoza’s band the Shambles set too, but the best laid plans…. I caught one song by the School of Rock, (Somebody to Love) before I headed to the ATM to procure some 20’s.

Just like riding a bike

Recently I read that last quarter bicycles outsold automobiles & trucks in our country. Sure, as that Missing Persons song goes, “Nobody walks in L.A.” heck, that’s part of why I could only stand living there for a year. But O.B. on the other hand has every thing that you need within walking or at the very least biking or skateboarding distance.

Dave Gilbert: You didn’t run for mayor last time, why not and will you run again?

Jim Bell: I did run for a while and took out papers but I dropped out and endorsed Floyd Morrow. I though he would have campaign money and might have a better chance to win than I would. …

Someone’s house is burning

Is it me, or does it seem like that lately there are more and more sirens going on at all hours of the day & night? Last Sunday morning (3-22-09) around 5 a.m. I was awakened by the siren of a fire-truck racing down my street. My first thought was, really? There’s that much of an emergency that all of northern OB needs to wake up at 5 in the morning? I rolled over and went back to sleep.

Despite all the drought doom and gloom coming out of Sacramento lately, the San Diego/Tijuana Region can easily become renewable water self-sufficient.
