Based on a polling of our writers, the OB Rag now endorses Mandy Havlik for District 2 of the San Diego City Council.
Mandy has long been active in the communities of Point Loma and Ocean Beach and has ingrained the wishes, dreams and complaints of the residents of this sector of District 2. For instance, she’s been the first vice-chair of the Peninsula Community Planning Board for years, has been active in helping maintain Sunset Cliffs as a local treasure, active in the local Rotary and among the leadership of the local Democratic club.
In housing issues, she has actively opposed the overdevelopment of ADUs, favors real affordable homes, opposes Midway Rising, shows compassion for those suffering homelessness, has maintained her unbridled support for the 30-foot height limit at the coast, and is opposed to Measure A, the proposed tax on vacant homes.
On other issues, such as the mayor’s budget, Mandy has been advocating for months to cut the city’s middle management sector. On the city’s relationship with ICE, Havlik is against terrorizing people, does support Sanctuary Cities and does not support ICE.
On Liberty Station, Mandy does not want to see a private company take over the public space. She is against paid parking in Balboa Park and at the beach, and supports community planning groups as entities and wants to see them re-empowered.
In sum, Mandy Havlik presents herself as a grassroots, progressive candidate, and not a carpetbagger, nor a slick politician. What she lacks in governmental experience, she makes up in knowledge of her community and her passion for service to it.

Totally agree that Mandy is the best candidate for District 2. Mandy truly cares about the community and our neighborhoods. She also has 2 proposed propositions to help the city’s budget by closing some loopholes in the existing Transit Occupancy Tax that visitors to San Diego pay, not residents.
But what about Bailey?
Thank you to the OB RAG for your endorsement and support. This endorsement means so much to me because so much of my community work has happened right here on the Peninsula, showing up for our neighborhoods, protecting community character, advocating for safer streets, parks, coastal access, and making sure residents have a voice in the decisions impacting our communities.
From my work on the Peninsula Community Planning Board to neighborhood cleanups, environmental advocacy, and community organizing, I’ve always believed that real change happens when neighbors come together and stay engaged. I’m deeply grateful for the trust and support from a community I love so much.
Together, we’re building a campaign focused on bringing the community back to City Hall and making sure District 2 has leadership that truly shows up.

I have been a supporter of Mandy Havik in the past. She has been a long-term presence and very actively involved in the communities of Point Loma and Ocean Beach, and knows the concerns of the residents. One of her strengths is being on the Peninsula Community Planning Board for years and getting to know all the issues faced in the community. In addition to helping maintain Sunset Cliffs and her other involvements, she is also a member of the Ocean Beach Women’s Club (OBWC). This election season I have gone to as many of the Candidate Forums as I can, just to see what all the candidates have to say, and where they stand on the key issues facing our coastal communities at the current time. After attending and reading as much as I could about all of the candidates, Mandy is simply the best choice. Her stand on the overdevelopment of ADUs, her work for affordable homes, her concerns about the Midway Rising project, and support for the 30-foot height limit are all just some of the reasons I think she is the only candidate that really has the best interests of the community in sight. She is not a career politician, and she cares about what happens to the community long term.
Bailey should be running for Mayor.
Perhaps he could get a job as a glyphosate rep.
We are going to need community advocates more than ever. The Yimby Democrats (yes, it’s a real group) are pushing the City to add over FIFTY rapid bus stop designations to trigger SB79 seven story nightmares foisted upon single family neighborhoods. You can bet La Jolla, Point Loma, and Ocean Beach are on their target list. Not sure what our City Government can do to delay the onslaught, but please support those, like Mandy, who support us having local community plans.
And Josh Coyne has been endorsed by the Yimby Democrats…
I support both Mandy and Nicole for D2. Both are advocates for residents over whole home short term rental’s profits. Bailey in contrast supports the current STR ordinance, which means to me that he is in the pocket of AirBnB. This is just one issue. On most other issues with the exception of Midway Rising, they are in agreement. The main trade-off between the two is Mandy’s passion for the neighborhood versus Nicole’s stronger government experience base and education. Both would be far superior to what we have had for the last 8 years.
“Mandy Hallik is “…opposed to Measure A, the proposed tax on vacant homes.”
So are Suppa, Rickey and Bailey.
All good!
?Good Luck!?
Defeat Measure A, the Divisive, Invasive, Regressive Tax!
Vote NO on Measure A!
Is anyone else getting pro-Josh Coyne texts that ignore that Coyne is a Midway Rising supporter and state that he is now supposedly running against everything that project represents? Top Funder: LiUNA Local 89. Citizens, honesty has left the room. Toss the texts & flyers, we’ve never needed change as badly as we need it now. Vote Mandy.
