Wall Street has long been the home of the biggest threat to American Democracy. Now it has become home to what may be our best hope for rescuing it.

For everyone who loves this country, for everyone whose heart is breaking for the growing ranks of the poor, for everyone who is seething at the unopposed demolition of America’s working and middle class: the time has come to get off the fence.

A new generation has gone to the scene of the crimes committed against our future. The time has come for all people of good will to give our full-throated backing to the young people of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The “Occupy Wall Street” protests and occupation of a small nearby park, dubbed “Liberty Park”, continues into its 12th day in downtown Manhattan in New York City. The protests began on Saturday, September 17th, and while activists initially wanted to surround the banks and other symbols of Wall Street, they were blocked by the ever-ready presence of the NYPD. So the protesters took over a small park a block from Wall Street and have been occupying it ever since.

A mass arrest last Saturday, the 24th, of over 80 demonstrators by police during a march appears to have back-fired. There is now more corporate and mainstream media coverage since the arrests, and particular official disgust has been directed at one officer in particular who pepper-sprayed protesters for no reason.

Editor: We received the following from “Occupy San Diego”, which is planning on holding a solidarity action in support of the current “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations that have been occurring daily since September 17th in and around Wall Street in New York City. Who knows what state the Manhattan actions will be in by time the San Diego protest rolls around, but the San Diego organizers are planning daily meetings.

SAN DIEGO-Occupy San Diego is standing in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street in NYC, and will begin a peaceful civil disobedience protest of the global financial corruption currently invading politics, media and corporations, by occupying an open space in the Gaslamp District indefinitely starting on October 7, 2011 at 4:30 pm.

Things have changed drastically at the Occupy Wall Street encampment and demonstrations. There’s been a crack-down by police. Mass arrests, peaceful demonstrators pepper-sprayed. Arrested people – some injured – having to sit in a police van for hours. Over one hundred plus people have been arrested including members of the the Live Stream Media team that has been providing a stream. The major media blackout continues.

Editor: The protests in and around Wall Street in New York City are still going on, and have now entered their eighth day. “Occupy Wall Street” efforts have now been endorsed by three unions. Here is a report by Chaz Valenza who has been monitoring the demonstrations. There have been between 150 and 250 people occupying and sleeping at a park a block from Wall Street, which they have re-named Liberty Park.

Here is a mid-day update on the protests going on currently around Wall Street in New York City. “Occupy Wall Street” actions and a takeover of a local park continue. Tensions between demonstrators and police are mounting, one protester is in critical condition, and it appears that YAHOO was – for a while at least, censoring emails on their accounts that had the words “occupy wall street”. The “problem” appears to be over.

Protestors continue their “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations in New York City for the fourth day. In what began as a day of rage on Saturday, the 17th, continues into this week. Hundreds have been camping out at what used to be called Zuccotti Park – renamed “Liberty Park”.

At 730 am of 9/20 three people were arrested including one of the media team. Always classy, NYPD. At any time, 50-70 people typically surround the park w/ about 200-300 people in it.

We need deeper changes to our financial system, or tent cities of people angry at corporate greed will keep appearing.

On Saturday 17 September, many of us watched in awe as 5,000 Americans descended on to the financial district of lower Manhattan, waved signs, unfurled banners, beat drums, chanted slogans and proceeded to walk towards the “financial Gomorrah” of the nation. They vowed to “occupy Wall Street” and to “bring justice to the bankers”, but the New York police thwarted their efforts temporarily, locking down the symbolic street with barricades and checkpoints.

Wall Street Protests Continue, With at Least 5 Arrested

In a continuation of the demonstrations that began on Saturday, nearly 200 protesters marched along Wall Street and other parts of the financial district Monday morning, brandishing American flags and signs denouncing the economic system. At least five of them were arrested.
