The San Diego Community Coalition publishes this email bulletin to keep our members and the general San Diego public informed about important Council hearings and other city public meetings, particularly this week the San Diego Planning Commission.
The full City Council is adjourned this week for elections.
Thursday, November 5:
Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committee, 9:00 a.m.
Item 2: Proposed Revisions to Council Policies 900-20 Naming of City Assets and 000-40 Marketing Partnerships
Why it matters: The proposed revisions appear to strengthen transparency and oversight while maximizing potential revenue. But in a cash-poor city that continues to squander public trust, this issue will always need close scrutiny.
Item 3: Approval of the 2027-2028 City of San Diego Federal and State Legislative Platform
Why it matters: Remember when Todd Gloria exploited the 2025 “legislative platform” to have a lobbyist announce in Sacramento that San Diego endorsed the controversial Senate Bill 79? And he didn’t bother to tell the City Council or the public? This is yet another issue that requires vigilance.
Item 5: FY 2026 Annual Citywide Grants Report
Why it matters: An analysis of the City’s performance in procuring grant money, especially in critical areas like affordable housing and infrastructure, should be undertaken by the Independent Budget Analyst, which enjoys some measure of public trust, instead of the Mayor’s Office, which doesn’t.
Thursday, November 5: Planning Commission, 9:00 a.m.
Item 5: Rancho Bernardo Community Plan Update
Item 6: Otay Mesa-Nestor Community Plan Update
Why they matter: To date, community plan updates have opened the door to massive new housing density without providing the infrastructure needed to support such density. Residents of Rancho Bernardo and Otay Mesa-Nestor will need to mobilize early to push back against development overreach.
In-person: Council, 202 C Street. Planning Commission, 7650 Mission Valley Road
