Editor’s Note: The County of San Diego has announced Temporary Area Restrictions in the area near the Border Wall prototypes effective March 9 -16. Via the Times of San Diego, here’s their release directed at people planning to demonstrate during Trump’s visit.

It has been widely advertised that there will be a Presidential visit to San Diego during the second week of March. This visit may prompt individuals and groups with contrasting opinions to gather in the area near the Border Wall Prototype Construction in Otay Mesa.

UPDATE: Contractor Tells OB Rag 51 Torrey Pines Will Be Planted at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park

The OB Rag has just been contacted by Keith Adamek,vice-president of Silverstrand Construction – mentioned below – that the number of Torrey Pines trees they will plant is 51.

Virginia Wilson of Save Peninsula Trees told this reporter that the company working on developing Sunset Cliffs Natural Park had pledged to plant 130 Torrey Pine trees within the park. She had heard this number at the recent meeting of the citizens’ council that oversees the park from a representative of the company, Silverstrand Construction.

The planting of Torrey Pines is mentioned several times in the Master Plan for the Sunset Cliffs park – which is great. OBceans love Torrey Pines – and fight to keep them.

There’s a “Save Bahia Point Park ! -Paddle & Appreciation Day” being put together by some of the beach folks mobilized against mega-hotelier … Evans public land grab at Bahia Point in Mission Bay. It’s happening Saturday, March10th.

New Executive Committee Chosen

At last night’s monthly Ocean Beach Planning Board meeting, Blake Herrschaft was elected Chair of the Board, a step up from his former position as vice-chair. And Andrea Schlageter was elected the new vice-chair – whose task mainly is to chair the monthly subcommittee meeting of the Project Review panel. Rounding out the Executive Committee, Craig Klein was selected again as the Treasurer and Dan Dennison the Secretary of the Board.

In community election results, the 4 incumbents who ran were all re-elected; they include Klein, Numan Stotz, Jane Gowronski and Schlageter. John Ambert and Bill Corbin have stepped off the Board. Ambert was chair for 4 years.

Discussion on Dockless Bikes

The main draw for the night’s meeting – evidenced by a packed meeting room and at least 3 television cameras – was a promised discussion or forum on the invasion into OB by bike-share, or dockless bikes.

We were just tooling around the Point in my Nissan Verse, out to Ladera Street to check the stairs, up the road to see what’s happening with the trees and construction of the new park at Point Loma Natural, up Hill Street to inspect the progress of the new Point Loma Fire Station, then north to Voltaire to take in the views of the Upper Voltaire project. And everywhere (not literally) we saw LimeBikes – not in huge groups – but in ones, and twos ….

Ladera Street Stairs Still Accessible Despite Tape

The City of San Diego believes the cliffs around the end of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard at Ladera Street are unsafe.

Tonight – Wednesday, March 7th – Ocean Beach becomes the focus in the “battle” over dockless bicycles, for representatives of 3 so-called bike-sharing companies will appear at the OB Planning Board. The Board holds their monthly meeting at 6pm in the Community Room of the OB Recreation Center, 4726 Santa Monica Avenue.

OB – as have other communities around San Diego – has been swamped of late with LimeBikes appearing overnight without warning. Tourists and visitors seem to like them – but what about locals?

Ocean Beach in San Diego is a special place. It’s a beach town that still hasn’t been gentrified into losing its core identity like so many others. It’s a place where surfers, skaters, hippies, bikers, families and college students all coexist to make up a very interesting beach community. Surrounded by Sunset Cliffs to the south and Dog Beach Jetty to the North, it’s also a place with a wide variety of waves.

So, when some local companies band together to bring you the Ocean Beach Pier Surf Classic, it makes sense that the contest has as much variety as the town it was based in.

And that’s it. No questions, please. Isn’t the internet great?

There can be no doubt that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids at workplaces and in neighborhoods will once again become major activities in our area – top officials in ICE have said so. After California’s Governor Brown signed a law limiting California law-enforcement officials’ cooperation with federal immigration authorities,

Mr. Holman, a top ICE official warned, “California better hold on tight—they’re about to see a lot more deportation officers.”

Coming through the door of the newsroom, the first thing the eye catches is the stacks of newspapers. The stacks of black ink on white paper almost catches the front door entrance as the door swings open. Situated above a Wendy’s restaurant on Grand Avenue in Pacific Beach, San Diego, the newsroom is home to three local papers: The Peninsula Beacon, La Jolla Village News, and Beach and Bay Press.

The papers, put together in a collaborative effort here in the newsroom, are published bi-weekly, and will eventually coat the areas of La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Point Loma, and University City with their combined total of 62,000 copies per edition.

Representatives from several bike and scooter share companies will have their programs reviewed by the Ocean Beach Planning Board at its monthly meeting, this Wednesday, March 7th. The appearance of many LimeBikes on the sidewalks has caused quite a reaction among OBceans – not all of it positive.

Reps from Lime Bike, Ono Bike and Bird Scooters will field questions from the Board – and the public – with the discussion resulting in recommendations from the Board.
