Frankie Montas signed a one-year, $16 million deal with the Reds in early January even after shoulder surgery limited him to one relief appearance last year. The Tigers will pay Jack Flaherty $16 million despite the 28-year-old flirting with a 5.00 ERA in 2023. Luis Severino (6.65 ERA), Kyle Gibson (4.73 ERA) and Lance Lynn (5.73 ERA) will all make more than $10 million this year.

MEChA was founded in 1960 by college students across the United States to advocate for more representation of Hispanic and Latino students on college campuses.

Currently, the student-led organization, in San Diego some of the largest colleges such as University of California San Diego and San Diego State University have rapidly growing MEChA clubs. MEChA stands for “Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan” in Spanish, which translates to “Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan.”

Some grateful students in Point Loma are reflecting on a rollercoaster journey after money from a fundraiser was stolen.

For much of October, the fifth grade classes at High Tech Elementary led a school-wide fundraiser, ‘Pennies for Pets,’ as students and families filled jars with spare change and cash to benefit the San Diego Humane Society.

Last week, the parents and guardians of Ocean Beach Elementary students received heartbreaking news regarding the impending relocation of a beloved 3rd-grade teacher, Ms. Bailey Ringer, due to lower enrollment than projected.

This decision has far-reaching consequences, affecting not only Ms. Ringer’s 3rd-grade class but six additional classrooms. The sudden shift in classrooms, effective next week, has left parents, students, and educators deeply concerned.

This Tuesday morning, around 7:15, parents and students began gathering in front of Ocean Beach Elementary — many wearing red. Over the next half hour, dozens more appeared and many carried signs about putting students first.
