OB Cable 1736 CableFour old-school looking 2 story townhouses in south Ocean Beach just recently sold for $1.8 million.

The large units, built in 1987, are located at 1736 Cable Street, and sit on a 7,000 square foot corner lot with Del Monte Avenue.  A lengthy hedge along Cable protects the bottom floor (or at least it was there the last time we looked).

OB Cable 1736 aerialThis latest sale of apartment or condo complexes join a growing list of what we’ve called “an unprecedented sell-off of OB apartments over the last 4 years. …” At the end of April, we said:

According to a review of OB Rag records, there’s been an unprecedented sell-off of apartments in Ocean Beach over the last 4 years.  This has included the transfer of nearly $38 millions and involving nearly 160 units.

Since the summer of 2011, there’s been nearly 20 of these transactions – the sale and purchase of multiple-unit properties in the OB village.  There’s been at least ten since January 2014 and 3 this year already.

This latest sale is the 7th or 8th for this year, we estimate. Six units on Long Branch sold in June, as did 4 units on Muir. A 22-unit complex on Santa Monica sold in July.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.
