It has finally come down to this: the weed-strewn corner lot at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and West Point Loma can be tolerated no more!  The Gateway Project is an embarrassment to every OBcean who cares about how the community looks.

Community volunteers will be assembling tomorrow – Saturday, September 8th – in the morning at the lot and will be attacking the weeds with a vengeance. The clean-up is being sponsored by the Green Store and the OB Rag – and organizers are expecting 30 volunteers to show up.  Most of the work will be done between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon.

Everyone is encouraged to join the effort.  If you wish to help the clean-up, wear boots or good shoes, gloves, a hat, water, and the good vibes will be provided by the sponsors.  Oh, yeah, it’s BYOT – bring your own tool. Some tools will be provided, along with some shade, water, and garbage bags. Organizers are still looking for someone to donate a truck to the effort in order to pack the weeds away.  If you are interested and can help or donate, please call the Green Store at 619-225-1083 for the latest update.

There is no parking on the site, so volunteers are being asked to park at Robb Field, just adjacent to the lot.

Neither the City of San Diego nor any politician’s office are involved – just regular OBceans tired of how the site looks and willing to jump in and cut down the weeks themselves. This is another example of “the OB Way” – where citizens of OB take it upon themselves to do things for the community that need to be done.

hat tip to Jim Grant who suggested this.

It’s only been a decade, give them a chance they still might get to it themselves.
