Frank Gormlie  September 6, 2017  7 Comments on A Brewery Fails to Open in Ocean Beach: Little Miss Brewing Calls It Quits

An unusual thing has occurred within the budding brewpub explosion in Ocean Beach. A brewery tasting room has failed to open on Newport Avenue and the owners have obviously called it quits.

Little Miss Brewing apparently is not going to happen. Inside construction has stopped and a Three Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit was taped to the outside of a glass door for a few days. It was dated September 2, 2017.

The Mindless Wanderings of the Widder Curry

Judi Curry  September 5, 2017  7 Comments on The Mindless Wanderings of the Widder Curry

After finding out that I write for the OB Rag and sometimes the San Diego Free Press, people frequently ask me what I write about besides doing Restaurant Reviews. It is difficult to pinpoint what I EXACTLY write about – because I find that my mind (yes – I still have one -) tends to wander all over the place; sometimes enough to write an article; sometimes to get really p – – – – – off; sometimes just to create a discussion.

So this Labor Day Weekend, alone for the first time in 4 ½ years since Cowboy dumped me, I have had a lot of time to ponder many different things. Some I’ll share with you. And for those of you that don’t like my wanderings – DON’T READ IT! I’m writing this as a catharsis for me. I’d like you to enjoy it; think about it, but if you don’t want to do so, it’s fine. Just don’t write back and tell me that my Editordude must have gone soft because he published this drivel. Here goes –

As a former educator, Administrator – read Principal – I was appalled when the Boards of Education in many school districts changed the starting dates for school to the middle of August.

Jim Miller  September 4, 2017  0 Comments on What Good is a Union in 2017?

What is there to celebrate this Labor Day for the average American? We live in troubled times and many of us in the United States are increasingly anxious or angry as we see the American Dream slipping away right before our eyes as the middle-class shrinks and the gap between the very rich and the rest of us continues to grow.

South OB Girl Looks at the Contract Between the City and Aztec Landscaping Re: Dusty Rhodes Park

By South OB Girl

Tree maintenance, weed removal, and gopher control were specified in the City’s contract for Dusty Rhodes Park– and not done.

As far as I can tell the City has thrown money into the wind (again) and not thoroughly or responsibly administered its contract with Aztec Landscaping, the company previously hired by the City for maintaining Dusty Rhodes Park.

A close reading of the contract is unsettling. The details of this contract were not carried out. There are specific jobs in the contract that were supposed to be done, were budgeted for, and not done.

OBceans Say ‘No!’ to Target

Frank Gormlie  August 31, 2017  10 Comments on OBceans Say ‘No!’ to Target

A large crowd gathered at the foot of Newport Avenue and rallied against Target coming into Ocean Beach.

Many signs, a large banner and chants of “No Target in OB!” met the strollers, the visitors, people driving by and the handful of TV trucks and cameras.

It was Wednesday August 30th, late in the afternoon, and it was Farmers Market day on Newport Ave.

After about a half hour of speeches, more chants and people signing petitions, the protest marched into the street and down the middle of OB’s main business street.
