my friend and hero,
Berenice Badillo,
talk about her art
in Chicano Park
a few days ago,
her mural,
“No Human Being is Illegal,”
that was born in her soul,
I hadn’t expected to
hear about
the plight of women
in the Chicano movement

The City of San Diego will release fluorescent red dye into Mission Bay on Dec. 3 to study water circulation as part of a larger environmental project. Data will help the City design future water quality improvements and ecological restoration projects at the bay.

The nontoxic dye will be visible for about a week. It is made of rhodamine and is safe for use in drinking water and salt water. The dye will naturally become absorbed into the bay and is not expected to leave any residue on beaches or have any other long-term effects.

The Guardian / December 2, 2021

Conservative justices in the US supreme court have signaled their support for curbing abortion access during oral arguments in the most important reproductive rights case in decades, threatening the future of abortion access across the country.

Campaigners have warned the case poses a direct threat to the legal underpinnings of Roe v Wade, a landmark 1973 decision that guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion. In their lines of questioning on Wednesday, liberal justices warned against abandoning important legal precedent, while conservatives argued for reviewing it.

Amid losses to development, pests, and disease, the city has removed as many trees as it planted in the past two years, according to Anne Fege, chair of the community forest advisory board.
