Alison Shea told me that the dog park was open today. But the parking lot is NOT so hopefully that will discourage out of towners from coming here

What is Ocean Beach Community Park? I should say “where?”

The Mayor of San Diego has decided to open parks and allow people to go outside even though there has been an 8% increase in deaths in San Diego County.
Why do you think he did this?

Choose one:
1. He based his decision on Scientific consensus about self-isolation.
2. He based his decision on fear of right-wing protests.
3. He based his decision on the Police not knowing, or willing to disperse white people without injuring them.
4. It’s not a political move.

If you chose number 1 you are a fool.

I drove by Famosa Slough today; the trail that leads from the parking lot is still roped off with yellow tape.

Where are Ocean Beach Community Park and Ocean Beach Gateway Mini Park? I can’t find them specifically on the website or with google search.

Justin, I believe the OB Community Park is the general OB beach area and the Mini-Park is at the corner of W.Pt.Loma and Sunset Cliffs and has a whole weird history itself.

I hitched across country in the early ’70s to go surf the East Coast, and once I stopped in NYC to visit my birth mother who had moved from the Mission Beach to Bleeker St. in the Village a few years earlier. She took me to Washington Square Park one afternoon. I didn’t know until just a couple of days ago that the park is built on top of the mass graves of New Yorkers that were slaughtered by Yellow Fever pandemics. At least one other city park was listed. Gotta get rid of the bodies somehow I guess.

Because we have forgotten the lessons from other Pandemic virus’s learned in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries (and thousands of years before those years), this virus will make us learn them all over again. At undoubtedly a horrible human price. 7 min video from NYT Science guy.

_________

Testing Kits and Other Equipment: Once upon a time Trump said that anyone who wants to be checked for the virus can do so. When it became apparent that there was virtually no testing capacity, he arrogantly asserted (in March): “I don’t take responsibility at all.” No wonder: Only 1% of Americans have been tested as of mid-April. Now it’s late April. Not much has changed but then did we expect anything different? No. But we just hate being stuck inside so…

San Diego is doing the same thing that Georgia and Florida has done. All run by Republicans whose only interest is in profits. Expect in 2-3 weeks a spike of infection/hospitalizations/death because, after all, that’s what virus pandemics do. Then it’ll all shut down again but even harder I would guess. Just saying don’t be surprised.

In this mountain county nothing but refusals to test anybody unless they are admitted dying to a hospital. That’s it, the only time you can be tested! But, like everywhere else, they aren’t testing dead people found in their homes. Unless you want to pay the $1300 bill with your ‘extra special Trump stimulus check.’ Except there aren’t any extra test kits available for the public to ‘frivolously’ supply such a request from a very sick person but not obviously dying anyway. So if you don’t test you don’t know. Numbers sure look good.

Asymptomatic Carriers are a huge percentage of confirmed cases. Many many kids in that number. That doesn’t sound good, especially for those people that were crowding and jostling one another at Sunset Cliffs on the glorious re-opening afternoon… If you don’t look sick or feel sick why stay home? Why wear a mask? And isn’t the sunset over the ocean incredible tonight. I’m so glad we could all get together here on the edge of the world…

Big sigh.

yeah, gotta say, even tho I’m a SS recipient, and well under the poverty threshold, havent rec’vd my “stimulus check” yet. I guess, given for the first time in 50 years, I filed this year via Turbo Tax, bequest to me by a family cousin (since I wont pay a dime for the onus of filing , after filing personally in long hand -that’s pen and paper to you newer generations, after repeated screamings by IRS to “file electronically”). Now what? Here I am, dangling in the wind, hoping for a check by mail sometime in Sept.
Since I’d neither owed nor refunded, I’d never given IRS my bank acct #, good thing since those seem to have been hacked as well. So just add the Treasury to the dysfunctional Govt agencies. Whaaaat? The Treasury can’t seam in with the SS Dept? Yep, color me not surprised. :/

Hey retired, likewise, I’m a SS recipient and didn’t have to file taxes, and also haven’t received mine either, as of Friday. I’ll continue to check daily. Our sector was told that we’d get them in late April. Almost there….

Stimulus checks. Oh how stimulating…for one-time only! The wealthy .001% get .98 while the ‘rest of us’ get .02 of every dollar being given away for ‘stimulus.’ But wait, what’s the wealthy corporate theft up to now? $4.2 Trillion and rising? The higher it goes the less we the people get. That .02 is gonna look like .00000002 pretty quick I’m guessing since I’ve read that there is $10Trillion waiting in the wings for the owners of this country from a couple of different economic sources.

Plus, more wealthy tax cuts have already happened including a stop on employers paying into SS. Oops, how’s that gonna work? Then there is all the hidden economic stuff we aren’t allowed to know about that makes the wealthy richer… Oh my hell.

As the Talking Heads said: Same as it ever was.

I’ve been below poverty level since…the wealthy Wall St. bankers ripped us all off and crashed the economy in 2007/08 thanks to Bill Clinton and Wbush economic ‘policies’ while ‘peace president’ Obama continued W’s ‘bail out of the wealthy’ while we all sucked air…so I’m not even in line for one of those because I haven’t filed since then. Wbush killed my little shop when he signed the ‘most favored trade treaty’ with China in 2004 and clothing imports increased 4,000% that year and swamped small manufacturers. Nobody makes anything in this country anymore. They all shop at Walmart instead.

And, thanks to some shenanigans by tax prep businesses in the 80s and 90s that I found out about a few years ago when I started getting those SS notices, I’m not eligible for SS! What I didn’t know is that married running small businesses with a spouse getting a ‘standard’ paycheck not a dime was taken out for MY retirement but my income was added to theirs…after all I didn’t get ‘regular’ paychecks! Though I am contesting the 2nd marriage since we were together more than 10 years and I’m supposedly eligible for something being a ‘non-working spouse/house-husband.’ I didn’t realize I’ve been a bum most of my adult life…but I’m not holding my breath. Work until I die I guess…but can’t leave the house so there ain’t exactly much work around at this time.

Why doesn’t the GOV’ment send a check to every single adult who is required by law to file a census form? That makes a lot more sense to me because, supposedly, you won’t miss anybody that way. Every adult on the form should get one, correct? Not gonna happen I’m sure. Gig economy, under the table workers, more than half the people out of work are falling into the Trump Pandemic Greatest Depression with nothing but empty air underneath them all the way down to the sharp rocks below. I remember ALL the stories my grannies told me about the 1930s trying to raise my parents. Gives me chills it does.

Sensible thought has never been worth much in politics, though.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” ? author H.L. Mencken, On Politics.

And he wrote this long before this there was Nixon and Ford and Reagan and Wbush and corrupt rightwing neoliberals like Clinton and Obama that all took the stage to cement in…whatever the hell kind of world we are living in.

So retired botanist and publisher Frank, you two just keep waiting for those ridiculous checks from a man that hates your guts! Me, I’m gonna walk up the ridge with a bowl and smoke it during tonight’s sunset. Not much else I can do…

But it ended up under opening the parks which made no sense to me…sorry for the mix up!
