Large Demolition and Construction Project on 4500 Block of Newport – 5 New Units Coming

Neighbors and passersby know about it. On the 4500 block of Newport Avenue, there is a fairly large demolition and construction project underway. Nothing has been built yet, just the initial beginnings of the take-down of an older 2 story and the chopping of a couple pine trees – one of which was a Torrey Pine.

Five new houses are coming in after the old building is demolished, on the 0.4 acres at 4537 Newport Ave.  A Process 2 Coastal Development Permit application was filed on January 19th, 2017 by Tony Struyk Struxk for five units each with 2,275 square feet on the 5 contiguous lots perched up on a commanding plot of land.

These will be fairly large houses – 5 of them – all in a row – and when OBceans see them, there will be a guaranteed dissatisfaction within the citizenry. But the projects and the land are just outside OB and are part of in the RS-1-7 zone in the Peninsula Community Plan, which is managed by the Peninsula Community Planning Board.

The City’s Development Project manager is Tim Daly, who can be reached at 619-446-5356, if one has questions.

What a heart breaker. I remember growing up in the 80’s and 90’s and while this was definitely the haunted house of our neighborhood, I thought it was actually quite nice and looked like it had been a beautiful home. I can’t imagine how small those 5 homes are going to be, they are going to be built practically on top of each other.

02/24/2016 Sold $1,700,000 MLS 150058887

Panoramic WHITE WATER + OCEAN +++ views !!! This 10,500 sf lot can be purchased with the adjacent (7,000 sf) lots for a total of 17,500!!!! OR all by itself. Property has roughly 140′ of DEPTH! + 75′ WIDE!. Lot goes street to alley. This is NOT a mild fixer, BUT the dream of dreams for someone who desires an amazing piece of land in OB. Together with the lots next door, this could very well be the LAST opportunity in OB for someone to have 17,500 with PANORAMIC VIEWS to develop.

04/10/09 Sold $1,100,000

A reader brought it to our attention that the original post had a misspelling of the applicant’s name, and that it is Tony Struyk, not Struxk.

For more on Tony Struyk, please see our post from July 2010: http://obrag.org/?p=22409
