Rock Paper Scissors back in the news?

We have just heard from friends in the know that Rock Paper Scissors and its controversial closure is back in the news – sort of.  The Reader, San Diego’s predominant weekly, is supposed to be carrying an article on it in its Thursday’s edition.  Jeff Fagan, the original owner of the arts and crafts store, reportedly refused to be interviewed.  Perhaps his lawyer advised him not to say anything because of court related matters ….

Plus Reader author Joe Degan will be on KOGO radio 600 AM Wednesday night at 7:30 pm  to talk about Rock Paper Scissors for 15 minutes.

Now will Turko get involved?

Listen to the radio, read the Reader article – tell us what you think?

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. To shirk your responibility under a smary LLC to avoid paying your vendors and the community makes a statement about his character. It is better to see honest small time craftsmen selling in that closed doorway that the door open with a cheat inside.

  2. I read it. Half of the Reader article is a reprint of Fagan’s letter to his vendors sent out months ago. I think the OB Ragu coverage combined with all the comments was much better.

  3. Since my bird died and I haven’t been fishing in years I have stopped picking up the Reader.

  4. I agree with Stu. The best thing about the reader is red meat. And they don’t always feature it.

  5. Back in the early, mid-1970s, it was the Reader that undercut the more political and progressive San Diego Door, by way of selling ads at a low price to all the Door’s advertisers. Just ask Doug P

  6. Who cares how the RPS fiascoe is exposed……..something is better than nothing…I am sure if it were stu, jon and gary who were screwed out of 1000s they would be happy to get any ink concerning the guy who stole from them. Then again they might be friends with the owner of RPS…..who cares.

  7. i read the reader report and i highly advise people to go after him for commingling funds. i personally watched jeff fagan use the registers as his personal piggie bank and contrary to his bullshit, he pretty much matched the numbers on sales this past december from the previous year. get him audited. if he says anything different in court, hes lying. and i just have to laugh continually at the person “elledevaux” defending him saying ‘he never turned down a charity..’ i personally watched him turn down little kids charities over and over. i watched him neglect his bills to the store over and over and over. jeff fagan is nothing more that a loser who always wants to be the life of the party. everyday past due bank notices came in, for months. he never opened one. he knew he was driving his business into the ground and everyone that worked for him witnessed this. i personally believe he was hiding money away, think offshore account or his kids account?? i dont know why people arent after him with pitchforks everytime i see him in this town. hes not trustworthy and if youve been wronged sue him into the ground.
