Mourn and Organize

Trump’s victory is a serious loss for most people in the United States and globally. I disagreed before the election and now, that it didn’t matter who won the Presidential election. Let us mourn and grieve but not give up. Elections matter and this one certainly does but being political means building and gaining power, being active to further what you believe in, much more than voting or supporting a candidate.

I don’t know if any campaign would have caused a Kamala Harris victory.

Gloria’s Dilemma: Across-the-Board Cuts? — Think Again.

 Source  November 21, 2024  3 Comments on Gloria’s Dilemma: Across-the-Board Cuts? — Think Again.

By Kate Callen

You can’t blame Todd Gloria for delaying the painful announcement that Measure E is DOA.

The mayor is having a rough month. He should have been re-elected easily. That didn’t happen. He had an inside track to a White House post. That won’t happen either. It’s understandable that a politician with fresh bruises would put off more skirmishes. But while Gloria takes a breather, the rest of the city is preparing for a fierce budget battle in the not-too-distant future.

Trump Pledges Use of Military for Mass Deportations After Declaring National Emergency

Frank Gormlie  November 20, 2024  0 Comments on Trump Pledges Use of Military for Mass Deportations After Declaring National Emergency

On Tuesday, November 19, at the San Diego Union-Tribune, these were the first lines of the main article:

President-elect Donald Trump confirmed Monday that he intended to declare a national emergency and use the U.S. military in some form to assist in his plans for mass deportations of immigrants who do not have legal residency status.

Trump Did Not Win a Majority of the Vote

Source  November 20, 2024  4 Comments on Trump Did Not Win a Majority of the Vote

Donald Trump’s popular vote total has fallen below 50 percent, and his margin over Kamala Harris has narrowed considerably as all the votes are counted.

John Nichols / The Nation / November 20, 2024

Unfortunately, for the president-elect, the United States takes time to count 155 million votes—give or take a million—and the actual result will rob Trump of his bragging points.

Over the weekend, as California, Oregon, Washington, and other Western states moved closer to completing their counts, Trump’s percentage of the popular vote fell below 50 percent. And his margin of victory looks to be much smaller than initially anticipated.

We Have to Bask in the Joyful Moments

by Ernie McCray

As I surveyed a picture
taken at
my sister-in-law, Becky’s, 80th birthday party,
I couldn’t help but notice
how joyful she looked
all dressed in pink
and I began to think
that the way to survive the mess
our country is in
is by simply
enjoying to the fullest
the joyful moments we find ourselves in,
no matter how fleeting they might be
because these little breaks
will certainly be short-lived
in our reality
as a country,

Gloria Had 5 to 1 Campaign Funding Advantage

Source  November 19, 2024  0 Comments on Gloria Had 5 to 1 Campaign Funding Advantage

By Alberto Garcia / La Prensa / November 12, 2024

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria benefited from five times more direct campaign funding than his opponent during a hotly contested re-election campaign that ended up being the closest outcome among high-profile competitive races in the county.

Gloria is currently ahead of his opponent, Larry Turner, by 55.3% to 44.6%, although about 140,000 votes still need to be counted throughout the County, with some yet-unknown portion of those expected to be from within the City of San Diego.

Michael Moore: ‘What Good Is an Election-Rigger If They Can’t Rig the Rigging?’

I couldn’t help but think as I tried to fall asleep the night of the election last week, after we were assaulted with the news that Trump had somehow won — Trump who wailed for four years that the 2020 election was “Rigged!” “Stolen!” and claiming that he, “Trump!”, was “The legitimately elected President!”, that Biden had an “inside operator” who “fixed the whole thing” to ensure Trump would lose.

I haven’t been able to sleep for over a week now, pissed off that that guy the Dems hired to steal the election again from Trump… HAD FAILED TO DO HIS JOB! WHERE WAS HE?! We learned from Trump that DEMS STEAL ELECTIONS!! WHY WASN’T THIS ONE STOLEN FOR HARRIS?! CAN’T THE DEMOCRATS DO ANYTHING RIGHT??!! I mean, we gave the Harris campaign nearly TWO BILLION DOLLARS! For two billion bucks we couldn’t even get a decent rigging using Hunter’s new laptop? ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!

Ok. Too soon. But am I at least allowed to make the case that if Trump was indeed the real winner in 2020, then by law he’s already been elected twice — in 2016 and 2020 as he’s said over a thousand times! So, per the Constitution, no president can be elected a third time! Right?

Racists Hold the Key to Saving Our Democracy

Come on America.
You vote for, perhaps, the most loathsome
excuse of a human being
ever born in the Milky Way,
then have the nerves
to talk a lot of bullshit
about how Kamala Harris
gave the election way.

Stop it, I say.
You’re way the hell off base,
as this election
was, aside from being laced
with strong traces
of sexism,
mostly about race.

Hey, If You Can Kill 20 Million Native Americans, Enslave 12 Million Africans, and Let Biden Fund the Slaughter of 40,000 Women, Children and Elderly…
— Of Course You Can Install a Rapist/Felon/Fascist as your President! In the Meantime, Breathe, Take Care of Yourself, Read a Good Book.

By Michael Moore / Nov 14, 2024

If you stop and think about it, we’ve come up with a lot of doozies in our history. Like the genocide of 20 million Native Americans. Or the enslavement of 12 million kidnapped Africans. Or us invading Vietnam and killing 4 million Asian people for no reason at all. We are not a good people.

We have a non-stop cavalcade, a sordid laundry list of evil deeds that led us directly to last week, to the point where we the people, by popular vote, elected a 34-time convicted felon, a fascist, and a civilly-charged and convicted sexual abuser to be our 47th president of the United States. And we did so after he clearly and quite honestly warned us that he was going to do a mass round-up and deportation of nearly 15 million people. And that he would consider executing people he referred to as “the enemy within” (i.e. his political opponents and those who were disloyal to him).

The Last House Races Too Close to Call

Source  November 13, 2024  2 Comments on The Last House Races Too Close to Call

By Paige Austin / Patch Staff / Wed, Nov 13, 2024

Republicans are one win away from taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives, giving the party control of all branches of government, and liberal California may very well be the state that delivers it to the GOP this week.

Though NBC News declared Republican victory in the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday and Data provider Decision Desk HQ projected Republicans to win the house, the Associated Press and other major outlets have not called it yet. That’s because a handful of races, including three in California, remain too close to call.

The Republican chances of victory in the House depends on still uncalled races in Arizona’s District 6 in the Tuscon area, Iowa’s District 1, Alaska’s District 1, and California’s Districts 13, 45, and 47.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Associated Press had not declared a victory in Orange County District 47, but on Tuesday night, Republican Scott Baugh conceded the race to Democrat Dave Min.
