Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate a 50-year old community victory for Ocean Beach. It’s the half-century celebration of the very first election to the OB Planning Board — and we’re having it this Tuesday, May 26th, at Dirty Birds OB. From 6 to 8pm.
We’ll have some finger-foods, good vibes and brief statements in solidarity of this election. There will be representatives from different OB groups including members of the current OB Planning Board.
If you’ve ever been a volunteer for anything in OB, then you’ll appreciate this event — and help honor the hundreds of OBceans who have volunteered for the planning board over the many years it has been in existence.
The very first democratic election of a community planning board was a hard-won victory for OBceans — people worked for years to get to that point, back in May 1976. Yet, it paid off, as thousands of OB renters, property owners and business owners participated in this first election.

Guilty. I JUST sent Frank an email saying “Yes, yes, we are coming!” I CAN’T WAIT to see all these people I have been reading every day and at last I will get to see a real person. Seal, are you coming down? Oh, I wish! Will we have name tags – what we post, and also what we get on our bills from the City and County of San Diego! Without the OBRag and all of you, we wouldn’t know what it was all about. Paul Webb, will we see you again? Is our OWN City-Council Candidate coming, Mandy Havlik? Will Richard Bailey show up? Oh, it is going to be wonderful. If you are read only, great! If you hit the keyboard when the Rag says “Leave a Reply,” I am greatly looking forward to seeing who you are.
