Trump Parties During Government Shutdown as Millions of Americans Lose Their SNAP Benefis

President Donald Trump hosted a “Great Gatsby”-themed Halloween party just hours before millions of Americans lost their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

This party was hosted by the president in the midst of and during the longest shutdown of the federal government.

The Friday night fête at Mar-a-Lago was themed “A little party never killed nobody,” according to the White House, referencing the song from the 2013 film adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.

Guests were seen wearing 1920s attire and there were hosts in flapper attire greeting the invitees, which included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ivanka and Tiffany Trump, and their husbands, Jared Kushner and Michael Boulos.

Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel has been celebrated by literary scholars for years for its depiction of the wealth and class divisions in the country that took place during the 1920s.

    1. Personally I think the video of the half-naked model in a giant see-through cocktail glass shimmy-dancing at the entrance to the party with her legs dangling over the rim should have been the first picture in this montage. It’s SO Trumpie, ya know?

And it was a Roaring Twenties party full of very rich criminals flaunting their wealth for the Society sections of the local newspapers. Rubbing it in all of our faces so to speak.

Of course we all remember what happened at the end of that decade; The Republican Great Depression. How appropriate since it certainly looks like that’s where DJT is taking this country. Like a bobsled on an icy mountain, we are all in for the ride.

But remember, bobsleds don’t have brakes. They go until they hit something hard.

I thought at first that the theme of the party completely misses what what the author was trying to impart in The Great Gatsby. Then later, Steph, I re-read your comment and realized that you might have gotten it completely correct when one looks at what happened to Marie Antoinette and the rest of the wealthy aristocrats. Their lives were ‘shortened’ rather abruptly. After all, guillotines are fairly simple machines operated by gravity….

Which brings us to this little comedic bit from The Borowitz Report:

Now how appropriate is this?! Since a lot of German Nazis fled to that country at the end of their reign, and Trump just gave $40 billion dollars of our tax money to Argentina’s corrupt right-wing dictator to keep him in power, this may not be comedy at all!!
