There is a 12-unit ADU project in Roseville on Canon Street that nearly slipped our collective mind. But our friends at Peninsula News are now reminding us – with the following “tour.”

They’ve torn down the original building 3026 Cañon St. How the heck are they getting away with building a 3 story “additional dwelling unit” when there is no longer a dwelling it’s attached to???? I managed/lived next door to the apartment complex 3034-3050 Cañon St for 10 years. Enough is enough. After a year of construction I’m moving June 1st.
Nicole, I asked that very question to one of my long-time contacts at the Development Services (I’ve been a local architect for 44 years & was born here). “Doesn’t an accessory unit need to be accessory to something, aka an existing unit?” The answer was that in policy meetings they decided that one of the new units could be considered the unit that others are accessory to.
Good questions, Nicole. This gives me the impression of a maneuver to skirt both city ordinances re residential construction (not ADUs) and Coastal Act review.
