Labor Day, Sept. 1, Protests in San Diego County — ‘Workers Over Billionaires’ — Downtown SD, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Carlsbad and Escondido

ALL DETAILS ARE INSIDE

Come Labor Day in San Diego County, September 1, there are 6 planned protests against the Trump regime, titled “Workers Over Billionaires.”

They’re in downtown San Diego, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Carlsbad and Escondido. (All details are herein.) [For outside SD County or for more info, go here.]

Downtown San Diego

It begins at 10am and runs to 12 noon at the Waterfront Park at 1600 Pacific Hwy. (That’s San Diego CA 92101)

About this event (Each event — except Escondido — starts at the same time, 10am, has the same demands and script, so we’re running just the downtown San Diego details, but with more info about each of the events.)

There are actually two events, one sponsored by the coalition that organized the No Kings event at Waterfront Park. The other, at the same place and time, is sponsored by San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council, No Kings and a host of other groups we list below.

Here’s their script:

This Labor Day we will continue to stand strong, fighting for public schools over private profits, healthcare over hedge funds, shared prosperity over corporate politics.

Working people built this nation and we know how to take care of each other. We won’t back down—we will never stop fighting for our families and the rights and freedoms that ensure access to opportunity and a better life for all Americans. The billionaire’s time is up.

On September 1st we will continue the movement we launched together on May 1st, standing in solidarity with all our communities under attack and fighting for real wins for all our people.

In thousands of communities around the country we encourage you to take a stand with us on Labor Day. On the streets, outside the offices of the corporate criminals who are behind the attacks on our freedoms and at congressional offices. Together we will demand a world that works for all of us.

OUR DEMANDS TO BUILD THE SOCIETY WE ALL DESERVE:

  • Stop the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration. Put workers and communities first.
  • Protect and defend Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs for working people.
  • Fully funded schools, and healthcare and housing for all.
  • Stop the attacks on immigrants, Black, indigenous, trans people, and all our communities.
  • Invest in people not wars.

Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?
Are you on the side of striking healthcare workers or healthcare CEOs (ex. Kaiser + UCSD Health) that make millions while slashing care? Are you on the side of hospitality workers fighting for $25/hour or ICE who is unaccountable and terrorizing our communities? Are you on the side of the working class or the billionaires?

Join unions, workers, neighbors, and San Diego’s pro-democracy movement on Labor Day September 1, 2025 to ask WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?

Sponsored by your San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council (AFL-CIO), SEIU-UHW (United Healthcare Workers) @seiuuhw, UDW (United Domestic Workers) @udw_union, NO KINGS, 50501 San Diego @50501sandiego, Change Begins with ME/Indivisible @bethechangesd, Indivisible 49 @indivisible49, OHCC Democracy Defenders/Indivisible, Encinitas and North Coast Democratic Club (ENCDC) @encdcdemclub, Activist San Diego @activistsd, Committed to Building a Fair Democracy/Indivisible (CBFD), UCSD Students’ Civil Liberties Union (SCLU), and Swing Left/Take Action San Diego @takeactionsd

About this event

Fight the Trump Takeover. We will be fighting in solidarity with the bigger protests around the country!

Sign up and join us- or plan on driving by and beeeeping or, if you are extra bold, wave a sign out your window as you beep like crazy!

So many opportunities: The more the unengaged see “regular people” fighting for democracy consistently, joyfully and peacefully, the more inspired they will be to do the same, or at least they will start paying attention (you canNOT unsee our signs)!

Just being with like-minded people is helpful and it’s inspiring. It’s absolutely the antidote to our fear and frustration — we instead turn it into action!

Plus, the bonus is, we don’t have to wonder if we are with people who share our values and our morals. WE KNOW WE ARE!!  It’s empowering to see so many of us sharing the same values, willing to step up to save democracy!

So, bring a sign and come on down – we always have an extra sign or two, so don’t let that stop you from joining us!   Even just your presence is important!

REMINDER:   The food banks struggle more each day – so many have food insecurity, and worse, some are afraid to leave their homes because of i c e … BRING YOUR SHELF STABLE ITEMS — our liaison will bring all our donations right to the food banks!

Fight the Trump Takeover

Just like any bad boss, the way we stop the takeover is with collective action.  We are working people rising up to stop the billionaire takeover–not just through the ballot box or the courts, but through building a bigger and stronger movement. We are growing our movement and fighting for a country that is more fair, just, equitable, and free for all of us—and not just a chosen few.

On September 1st we will continue the movement we launched together on May 1st, standing in solidarity with all our communities under attack and fighting for real wins for all our people.

Thousands of communities across the country are taking a stand on Labor Day, join us! We will be in the streets, outside the offices of the corporate criminals who are behind the attacks on our freedoms, and at congressional offices. 1. 6 protests against Trump next Monday, Sept 1 in San Diego County: downtown San Diego, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Carlsbad and Escondido. We have all the details.

  2. Pats, as much as I love your views on SD housing, ADUs, and such, you’re barking up the wrong tree here. This has nothing to do with unions and wages, but has to do with the authoritarian direction Trump has pushed this country. (I thought you used to work for the Post Office.) Trump has everything to do with where our country is going and we’re directing our anger at him and his wretched sycophants.

  3. While I absolutely respect the reiteration of non-violent protest and staunchly support the right to assembly and exercise of free speech, why muddy the waters with virtue signaling by cladding the opposition in those against protestors’ “values”.

Can’t people be opposed to one’s means of implementing fair pay practices without going fullover on making it personal with values? It seems odd to hide behind that word when trying to espouse equality…or is the point instead progressiveness that the organization intends to espouse, a tipping of the scale in the favor of the labor force due to–what?

    Need? Desire?
