City Tacos to celebrate 11th anniversary with taco-eating contest in OB
City Tacos will host a taco-eating competition at its Ocean Beach restaurant beginning at noon Sunday, May 4, at 4896 Voltaire St. as part of the chain’s 11th-anniversary celebration.
Eleven taco lovers will be chosen to see who can eat the most tacos in 11 minutes. The winner will receive a taco trophy and a “golden ticket” for a free tacos-and-drink combo meal once a month for a year.

Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern to hold 15th-anniversary event
Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a party Saturday, April 19, at 4990 N. Harbor Drive, Point Loma.
The restaurant will offer barbecue with baked beans, potato salad and cornbread from 2 to 6 p.m., along with live music and a free nine-hole miniature golf course.
Also, on Easter Sunday, April 20, the menu will feature chicken and waffles, quiche and other brunch items from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

OB Community Foundation sets board candidates forum
The Ocean Beach Community Foundation, the nonprofit advocacy and volunteer organization that organizes OB’s Near the Pier Pancake Breakfast, Taste of OB, Holiday Parade, Holiday Party & Auction, Holiday Food & Toy Drive and more, will hold a candidates forum for its 2025 board election at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, during its quarterly community meeting at Ocean Beach Elementary School, 4741 Santa Monica Ave.
The forum will feature people who have submitted an application form with a candidate statement by Tuesday, April 15.
Board members are elected by the community to serve a two-year term. Voting will occur April 17-27.
In addition to the quarterly public meetings, the board meets privately at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month.
It also will have an annual board orientation and strategic planning session on Sunday, May 18.

S.D. Master Chorale to present Brahms’ ‘Requiem’ in Point Loma
The San Diego Master Chorale will present Johannes Brahms’ “Requiem (A German Requiem),” conducted by Music Director John Russell, at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, 2128 Chatsworth Blvd.
The performance will feature pianists Bryan Verhoye and Jessie Chang, as well as soprano Carron Martin, baritone Matthew Fallesen and timpanist Heather Barclay.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for senior citizens and military members, $15 students and free for children younger than 12 and are available at sdmasterchorale.org/brahms-requiem.
