The public’s help is being sought in finding the driver in an Ocean Beach hit-and-run that killed skateboarder Cameron “Cam” Loren. Loren was struck from behind as he skateboarded down Voltaire Street.

This was June 4 and he was hit in the 4500 block of Voltaire around 10:30 pm. His body was found by a passerby.

San Diego police said the driver fled the scene, leaving the 25-year-old Loren on the street with injuries. Emergency crews responded to the incident, but Loren was declared dead at the scene, according to police.

A small memorial has been set up for him on Voltaire. Cam is reportedly to have been a worker at OB People’s Food Market just a block or so from where he was struck.

A description of the driver was not available, and investigators believe the vehicle that struck Loren was a light-colored sedan that may have a damaged windshield and roofline.

Anyone with information on this case, including the location of the driver or the vehicle involved, is urged to contact the SDPD Traffic Division at 858-495-7807 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

This is super sad. I lived for 4 years about two blocks south of this, and skateboarders were a constant, and sometimes irritating, feature of life on Voltaire St. As an example (don’t know if I can post this picture), one day a skateboarder group spent several hours outside my window filming some skateboarding feat. I’m trying to telework from home, they’re busting up “can pyramids” for hours under my window!! Having said THAT, no excuse for a hit and run, no excuse for not recognizing the “green” of skateboarding, at the end of the day. I hope the person who left this tragic scene is discovered.
Frank, let me know if there is a way to post my picture… the players (2014) might be interested in my capture of their endeavor…

A thought….

Does anyone know what the attachments ( on top of the light pole and box) are for on the street lights located at:

Voltaire and Froude
Venus and Volaire
Sunset Cliffs and Lotus
Sunset Cliff and Cape May

Are they cameras? If so, what cars were in the area the night of the hit and run?

I believe those are sound meters for airplane noise.

Peter,
I was told when inquiring some years back that the airport sound meters were in “undisclosed” locations… :(

If you do a google maps search for 1328 Dale Street, go to street view and look at the top of the telephone pole out in front you will see an element of the San Diego ANOMS-GIS system. The tallest element is a microphone.

The 3 “undisclosed locations” in the Point Loma area are:
Site #11: 3413 Browning Street
Site #20: 1944 Plum Street
Site #21: 1625 Froude Street

Well, I’ll be darned, yep, there it ’tis. Looked at the other locations as well and have to say, they don’t seem in the immediate flight paths. My previous location on Voltaire experienced all day/all night flights flying, frequently, below the 1500 foot threshold. I logged so many infractions with the Airport Grp I’m sure they knew me on a first name basis. :/
Anyway, this is a sidebar to the tragic story above and I don’t want to take away from it. I hope there are also some security cameras dotted around that might disclose some info about the incident.

THX for info

Next thought…I know nothing about Crime Stoppers or Go Fund Me. Is there a way to collect funds from the public/community asking for donations to increase the reward?

Wow, I have just had a sad realization. I believe the photo I took some years ago of the skateboarding guys filming their antics under my window actually features this young man Cameron Loren. In spite of my annoyance at the time with the noise, I have to say, they cleaned up every scrap of the props they were using, and it WAS a pretty clever idea. It saddens me greatly that he was one of the fellows captured in my photo….
Hope there is an update on this incident

He worked at the health food store and always was super nice upbeat and positive to me as he tang me up. Peace to you Cameron.

I met Cam in Oregon. We had linked through Soundcloud. I was in Eugene. He was in Corvallis. We met in person only once. We went to the Saturday Market in downtown Eugene one Summer. Probably in 2017-18. He rode his bike to San Diego i believe. And then I moved back to Yuma, Arizona. We talked on Instagram about meeting up eventually in Ocean Beach… I procrastinated… I regret that… I only found out he died recently. I want to double the $1000 reward. How do i proceed?

Cam originally wanted to go to Mexico is what i understand. He had some form of a gig lined up. But then got on probation in SD and couldn’t leave… Really sucks.

Check out his music here: https://soundcloud.com/funkapotamous-1

The first song on his soundcloud you will find is playing as i write this. Damn Cam. ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!? What a gift this person gave you. I want to go to OB right now and search for doorbell cams and private footage. But its been so long already. I dont know what to do. You were a cool dude. Very kind. Very conscious. Very self aware. Very locally aware. Very nationally aware. Very globally aware. Very interstellar indeed. Love you bro.
