It was a big day on Saturday over at the Dog Beach Dog Wash, OB’s iconic dog wash storefront, a really big day – actually a LANDMARK day.
At precisely 8:10 a.m., on the 22nd of November, the dog wash folks washed their 500,000th dog.
At that moment, GusGus – the dog – and his mom, Chris Uzeta (from Clairemont , was the Dog Wash’s 500,000th dog wash – or the half millionth dog wash!
GusGus received a free wash, as did the other four dogs here at the time, along with Mimosas and champagne for the owners, and a gift basket of toys & treats worth more than $200.
GusGus, a 4-year old Wheaten Terrier & poodle mix, was rescued by Chris a year ago from Second Chance Rescue, within a few hours of his photo being posted on their website http://secondchancedogrescue.org/
The Dog Beach Dog Wash’s very first dog wash was on February 6, 1993, with Jan and his German Shepherd.

The very first dogwash, February 6, 1993, from L to R, Mindy, Jan and his German Shepard, Mindy’s twin brother Tim (who helped build out the space), and Jane.
Mindy and Jane began their endeavor – risky at the time – as it was the first do-it-yourself dog wash in San Diego- back in Feb 1993. On their facebook page, the Dog Beach Dog Wash says:
We are grateful to all our human and canine friends for making our 22nd year in business a constant joy!
