We in Ocean Beach are so fortunate to have Scott Stephens and Liquid Blue living in our community, for this Sunday, Sept. 21- “Earthdance” is returning to San Diego and Liquid Blue is hosting the event. It will happen here in OB and across the world.
It is the world’s biggest “Peace Party” with synchronized music and dance events being held in over 600 locations in 80 countries.
For those of you that are not familiar with “Liquid Blue” let me just tell you that they are an activist musical group that has performed in over 100 countries and are based here. The band headquarters is the “Hippie House” on Sunset Cliffs which was recently designated an “International World Peace Site”.
Before the musical festivities at Winston’s, there are two additional events happening that will begin the day.
The first is the celebration of Global Peace Meditation. People all over the globe will be mediating simultaneously on Peace Day. On the west coast the time will be 12 noon (PST). Liquid Blue will host the San Diego “Unify” group mediation at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park across the street from the Hippie House. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.
Following the mediation and prior to the “Earthdance”, it is strongly suggested that you attend the climate march. People are encouraged to meet at San Diego City Hall. The climate march is also happening across the country, and it’s anticipated to be the largest worldwide climate march ever.
Here in San Diego, we will gather at City Hall at 12:30pm to call for a strong Climate Action Plan; stop at American Plaza / Santa Fe Station to highlight transportation alternatives, and end at the County Administration Waterfront Park, where we will hear from local leaders representing different communities.
Confirmed speakers include San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria and Richard Barrera, head of the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council AFL-CIO.
Then at 2:00 “Earthdance” begins at “Winston’s” in Ocean Beach. The musical acts are extraordinary; the speakers are motivating and there will be a prayer for peace.
Earthdance is aligned with the UN International Day of Peace on September 21st, each year. That day is devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideas of peace and non-violence, both within and among all nations and people. With the turmoil facing all of us at this time in 2014, there cannot be a more appropriate celebration addressing this problem.
Take a quick look at the musical line-up for the celebration:
- “Liquid Blue” – known for their rock/peace anthems/conscious covers;
- “ Sister Speak” – known for their alternative/world; “ –
- “Country Rockin’ Rebels” country/blues rock;
- “Black Pearl” – reggae;
- “Adelaide Marcus” – middle eastern belly dancing;
- D.J. Layla Loxa – conscious world beats/house/trance will entertain in between sets;
- Gill Sotu – MC/spoken word and
- Viet Mai – spoken word.
The speakers will include members from “Veterans for Peace”; the Green Store right here in OB; members from the Green Party, Activist San Diego and the Sierra Club.
Every Earthdance event across the globe recites the Prayer for Peace. It is often done at the same moment. This Peace Prayer is a tradition at Earthdance dating back to the initial year of 1997. At Earthdance San Diego the Prayer For Peace will occur at 7pm. The Prayer for Peace is a profound moment that unifies our intentions for World Peace!
Admission is just $6. Earthdance San Diego is donating $100 to Earthdance International 501c3 as well as 50% of profits to San Diego Community Radio KNSJ 89.1. Help fight the corporate media takeover by supporting community radio in our city of San Diego.
