This will be the first of several Man/ Woman -on-the Street interviews we have with OBceans and others on controversies in and around Ocean Beach. And this is just the very first set of interviews I had on the subject of the Police trailer with OBceans around town – mostly at the Farmers’ Market.
First, I asked folks if they lived in OB. And if they said yes, I asked them – without any prompting from me – what they thought about the trailer over in the Pier parking lot that has been there for the last 14 years. Here’s some of my first man/ woman interviews, from Wednesday, January 9, 2012.
Kip Kruegar, 50-something, long-time resident and activist, former member of the OB Planning Board:
“Been there too long. It’s gotta go.”
Lee Lee, 17, OB resident:
“Don’t like the fact that it’s operating in my experience. Constantly looking over your shoulder. Should go.”
Amber Tucker, 26, former OBcean, went to PLHS Class of 2004, mother of Tommy 4, Olivia 3, Makayla 1, now lives in Jamul with two more kids:
“The trailer never bothered anything.”
Nick Kurtz, 20, OB resident:
“Wrong on the beach, blocks view of beach. It should get away from the beach, Brighton or Saratoga.”
I can’t begin to tell you how tough it was to get these interviews. I stood outside Starbucks during the Farmers Market and asked people walking by if they would be interviewed. Many kept walking, some said they didn’t want anything before I even said what I was doing, and as I was looking for OBceans, many at the Market were from outta town. People – Puleese – if you see me on the corner asking questions with my media press badge, stop and tell me what’s up.
Hey Kip, loonng time no speak to … good to see you … your beard looks … long. Hey, I want to second Gormlie’s efforts to get people to talk to him. He doesn’t bite!
Move the trailer to the lifeguard station and just make it fit.
