What is it about this poster that is a threat to others? And, more importantly, why can’t I put a poster on MY fence, on MY property, and have it remain where I have put it as long as I want it there. Who is the skunk that thinks he can foul my yard and violate my privacy. (Of course, if you read the poster you can KNOW what the skunk thinks.)

I have had three signs removed by a “skunk” in the neighborhood. He has smelled up my yard several times since the election began. BUT…this poster is not about the election. This poster is about tolerance, understanding, and acceptance.
I am sorry to report that the skunk has returned to my neighborhood. And…more specifically, to my house.
The skunk is alive and well. (Is there a “Decon” for human skunks?) Even though I haven’t smelled him for awhile, it is apparent that he has returned because my poster – the one that was put up yesterday – is gone. And it wasn’t washed away with the rain. It was NAILED to the fence with 4 nails, and even though the poster is gone, the nails are still in the wood.

What you say? You don’t think the fence is on private property. Look at the picture of the fence taken from the street. How else could that poster have been removed if the skunk hadn’t come up on my property. I don’t think that driveways are “city owned.” The poster that was removed was on the front of the fence by the car. And…since I am on a corner, both sides of the driveway are mine. But…not to worry.
Even if the “smelly one” comes by every day I have enough posters until the election in 2012! And it isn’t even about the election!

I tried to rent a camera when I had the family of raccoons move it, but no one wanted to rent one. I am now wondering if the cost of the camera may be worth it, because I will catch more than the raccoon family. Thx

Also: sadly, unless you have a gate, your driveway is considered public property in CA:

That is one scary article. Thanks for sending it. Now…if my Golden was sitting in my driveway and the2-legged skunk came by to take the poster, and if Buddy bit him, would I still be liable because it really isn’t PRIVATE PROPERTY?
I 100% agree with the words on that sign but the way it was designed, I could see how one could feel that it’s almost yelling at the viewer, judging that they are dumb, and it reminds me of a mother yelling at her kids. If I had to walk around your block more than twice, that sign would start to boil my blood. STOP YELLING AT ME and making me feel like I need discipline!!! “YOU’RE AN ADULT, ACT LIKE IT!!!!!”

Hopefully not near me. But….to get out any animosity – McSpliffy could yell back at the poster. Many of the inhabitants of OB stand around yelling. At least we would know why he/she was yelling!

Of course it is, and there’s been a million knock-offs!
Seems to me the skunk is afraid of:
other Americans;
other religions;
other classes;
other nations;
and speaking out.
And when the skunk doesn’t get it and asks an American who does, the American who does screams: “Oh, my God, a SKUNK! and hauls ass (smile).

Maybe there’s a good artist in the crowd who might be able to paint the poster right on to the wall. Or maybe we could set up an OBRag Community Crime and Vandalism Task Force and have a surviellance schedule. Do they generally hit as soon as the poster goes up?

Our very own Crime Stoppers. Funny, because I applied to be on the CRB board for the police department and attended the informational meeting today. I wonder if we caught the skunk, and I got on the board, if I would have to “recluse” myself from hearing the case….
The new poster’s have now been up for 24 hours. Maybe once was enough – or maybe someone told him about the OBRag and has all the publicity he wants.

It’s is probably the same people who knock over signs and trees for no apparent reason other than to amuse their drunk selves on the long walk from the bar to their home or car. I’ve seen numerous for sale signs from realtors destroyed,newly planted trees torn out,etc.My point is,it probably isn’t the message the sign bears.Some people need something to destroy for some reason and Uncle Sam was an easy target) Try painting the poster directly on the fence.That ougha do it!
I supposed I could get some artist to paint it on the old wood, but what if I want to change it? I know! I could put another poster over the painting and see what happens when they take that off. But you are right – there are those bent on destroying what doesn’t belong to them just for the hell of it. Sad world we live in, at times.

I think it would be awesome to paint it on the fence and hang the poster over the painting.Get that camera and you have a pretty awesome you tube moment waiting to happen.
Since I have trouble with stick figures, and since the fence is old – but not as old as me – I’m open to any artist that wants to practice on my fence.

Your fence is very obviously on your property. Even though the City put in the sidewalk, it sits on your property.. it’s your’s all the way to the street and half way INTO the street.

But the reason it keeps getting torn down is that there’s a certain segment of society that just plain wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if they couldn’t spread fear, hatred, and bigotry around. I mean, anybody who’s “different” has got to be evil, right?

We’ll be on the side of the road tomorrow with our signs and contra-TeaParty information, trying to bring some sense to the population. May I suggest a motion sensor hooked up to a lawn sprinkler?
How can that be done? The lawn sprinkler’s are close to the fence, but unless someone were there to see the light go off, I still wouldn’t know who – or what – was there. Maybe someone might get electrocuted. (Just kidding. I know the sprinkler would not be on!)
